sadly in MADV (however piss fucking easy the questions may be) I cannot cover up my silly errors and end up with ranking worst than my me1.

is it a good idea to do me2 so i can get rid of MADV in my atar calculations? since the errors will cost me a lot more since MADV doesnt scale as highly (ik don’t talk abt scaling but genuinely). I’ve heard me2 can also help out in me1 so I figure it‘ll be more beneficial than continuing MADV? Plus some of the stuff seems interesting. I’ll be doing 12units so if something gets fucked up in me1 or 2 then it should just get kicked out my atar calculations. with MADV its 11units but I dont wanna even have half the mark of adv counted bc ik itll be trash.

ik ik tht me2 students are assumed to get b6 in adv but sadly I’m expecting like a low-mid b5 bc of the silly errors that I know will occur.

math extension 2 is like 10 times harder than math advanced lol. hence u would struggle even more with math extension 2. you need to get like a 50/100 for extension 2 to be worth the same as a band 6 in advanced, but 50/100 is way harder than getting even a 90/100 in math advanced. ur more likely to make mistakes in extension 2 since ur more cognitively overwhelmed (which are much deadlier). silly errors stem from being cognitively overwhelmed more than anything.

they say on your hsc results "This student would've gotten a band 6 in maths advanced" even if you get like a 50 hsc mark in math extension 2. That's because of how much harder extension 2 is. If you don't expect a minimum of 80 raw mark in mathematics advanced, you aren't cut for extension 2 at all.

If you are currently in Yr 11 (as your HSC year label indicates) and sitting Adv maths in a few weeks, just focus on doing your best, then decide after that if you want to repeat Adv maths or do MEx2 next year. If you do either of these next year, your Adv maths marks from this year will be superseded. However, if you end up with band 6 this year, then maybe a lighter load with just MEx1 would be more manageable next year, but you can cross that bridge after your Adv maths exam. Best wishes!

omg i was in the exact same situation as you.. i found madv content really tedious and i wasnt ever bothered studying it so i did me2 so it wouldn't count
if you find me1's concepts (especially calculus and trig) easy, then you'll definitely be fine for me2, and me2 is actually really interesting and way less boring than madv imo. id recommend to try it out atleast and you can always just drop it if you feel like it's not for you :D

Im so glad we're were in the same situation oml I thought i was alone in this weird predicament. Ill probably continue me2 since i think me1 concepts are relatively easy. It'll be easier to improve and reduce the mistakes i make in it since I actually bother doing past papers in it ❤
