My school is ranked ~470's, would that mean I'd have to achieve top marks in all of my subjects?! Would these ranks satisfy an atar of ~85?
Maths Ext 1/5
Math 1/18 :awesome:
Eng stand 4/21 :angryfire:
Engineering 2/6
D&T 1/8 :drink:

Physics 2/5 :blink2:

What is the range of difference for Eng, Engineering, and Physics? How many marks are in between first place and you (if you know)?

If the range is low for instance, 1 or 3 marks, then nothing to fear. Aim for first place in all your subs as you may be affected in the external exams.

I should also say I received a 86.25, and I ranked secondly internally for one of my subjects. Did relatively good in the externals of that subject, and thus the effect was null. School was 600+ lol.

Yes. Just work hard. The HSC is all about working and getting feedback, literally all of the information you need is out there

I should probably word this in a different way as i am leading you in the wrong direction. I'm actualy only in year 11 and based on tests, exams through out the year/last year these are only estimations to aid in setting an achievable goal for my self

This may sound like a stupid question, but what are subs ?

I have actually set the goal much higher than needed
Engineering at UOW has a cut off of 80 and give me 3 bonus pionts. It's it worth aiming for the extra 10 atar pionts to get into UNSW and risk burning out lol

UOW Early admission is something you should really consider. Then transfer to UNSW if your ATAR isn't sufficent. I know a guy who got 80.5 and managed to get into a 90 course at UNSW. Its definititely worth aiming for that extra 10. You're trying, might as well give it your best shot.

Not at all! Aim higher, those ranks will change. Prepare from now. Have a look at these posts on here about studying techniques and take a look at some great resources offered on here as well. Never too early to start :)

At UOW.... Mechanical Engineering
Should I go for school captain then lol
Yes! Do that, get involved in extra-circulars as well. Ensure you rank among the top 3, and you meet the criteria though. Ive seen people who have completey missed the criteria, and still get offered an interview and a course offer! So, I dont think they stress the criteria as much.

Does a black belt in mma count as a extra curricular ?
Mechanical engineering requires manual labour, so yeah? Anything that shows you actively being involved in things other than school, such as out in the community.

And wow, good job!
