But I thought litigation was a fairly widely held concern r.e. the 'sorry' thing. Is there another reason why Howard wont say sorry? Shouldn't the churches be important?
Howard has absolutely no responsibility so he doesn't need to say sorry.

He has to say sorry on behalf of the government............for what they have done in the past.

& he also has to say sorry on behalf of the Australian people.

He dosn't have to. He is not obligated to do anything.

Dictionary.com
Ancestor: A person from whom one is descended, especially if more remote than a grandparent; a forebear.

This means your parents aren't ancestors.

did you read any of this?

the point is by not saying sorry the wrongs of the past loose legitimacy...and it ceases to have occured...
What does that have to do with Joe Blow?

if the martians invaded Australia imposing their way of life on us killing us so that there was only 40 000 of us in 200 years...should the martials say sorry? Should ackowledge that they had a hand in destroying the human Australian population?

Maybe they wont say sorry i forget it happened...

its a pretty simply and blatant example for someone who has obviously done very little Australian social and cultural history
What does that have to do with Joe Blow?

OK, but seriously, yes, it is up to you. Howard decided not to apologise, and the next government may apologise.

However, we are talking about an apology for the stolen generation (I assume that is what they want it for). Don't you think that if the ATSI's want an apology for the deaths of there kin they would want an apology from the Head Of State...thats what I would want anyway.

Sir William Deane was going to do it...howward advised him against it...he didnt do it

Geffery's would never do anything like apologise...hes an old fashioned conservative from a bygone era...perfect howard appointment...they should have appointed Mary gaudron...
Why Mary Gaudron?

Ex high court judges make good GG's..better than miltary people and relgious people

at least ex high court judges know their rights as GG

Previous governor generals (before The howard appoitments) actally came out and had things to say...and at least contributed to the public record...

Howard appoints have evene historically been dudds
True, but I think Jeffrey will do a good job, he's doing pretty well at the moment and he donated his military pension to charity.

inspirational and admirable people should be appointed to the GG office...

Georffey is a miltary officiando with little background in the office that he has found himself in
Yes, he may have little experience but you can't say he's doing a bad job.

I think Sir William Deane would be the best GG we've had in a very long time.
