Does anyone know if Adv Maths and Chemistry is any good at Matrix in general, or specifically at Hurstville?

Yes it is good and you will get good resources in terms of the theory and homework books, but it is very expensive because they have 3 hr lessons per week at like $45 per hr (so you end up paying close to 130 per lesson). It also really depends who you get as a teacher as well, because some of the teachers I would say are worth the 130 you are paying if you are in a position to afford that because they are very experienced but its very hard to get into these top end teachers classes sometimes because the enrolment for that class is already full, so then you end up getting put into the class of teacher who isn't as experienced. These teachers are decent like they know what they are doing because they are usually phd people but I would say if you are paying 130 a lesson you would probably be wanting the best possible and in that case its not worth it. When I went there I would say 2/3 terms were worth it because I had good teachers in those terms, but the last teacher I had was definitely intelligent but he didn't really seem like he was that in tune with the whole exam and trial preparation that is key in the HSC compared to just understanding the content. You have to be able to write answers in a specific way to meet the marking criteria. Another thing to consider is this isn't meant to deter people but these tutoring colleges are only really useful or value for money for someone who is already on track to get band 6 or high band 5 by themselves. Because its in a classroom setting with at least 15 students, so the classes are like really fast paced, so you can't get as much individual help that a person who is mid band 5 or lower would need as they don't mark homework or give feedback on that. There are solutions but to the written questions sometimes there are multiple answers so you wouldn't know if what you wrote is correct or not. I would personally say go to matrix if you are already on track for band 6 based upon year 11, because it will push your knowledge and make you improve more, but if you are someone who isn't that good at the subject then go for private tutor. With that kind of money you are spending on one subject you could get tutoring for like 2 subjects at the same price and you will get more individualised help needed for a student who needs a bit more explanation on the concepts

Completely Agree with what has already been said, other than Chemistry being Bad at Matrix. I have been attending since the start of yr. 11 and have had nothing but positive experiences and a lot of knowledge learnt in depth and with structure, which is often lacking at school

Like all coaching, it is about the work you put in, so don't attend anywhere and expect to achieve brilliant results purely based on attendance.

I attend the Strathfield campus and can say all teachers for chemistry there are really good, and even follow their own teaching methods and structure to maximise the time they have which is expensive

Matrix is well suited to those who are fast learners, engaged and passionate. But overall, it is fun and a pleasant environment to learn in. It is not overly competitive or strenuous, just demands consistent work like all subjects.

Edit: I did maths there for one term and didn't enjoy it that much: I think your experience is contingent upon the teacher. As I have mentioned in other threads, it is best to go Ngo, Focus College, Du or other places around your area for Maths.

My exprience of Maths at matrix was much more different. I loved maths at matrix, it was probably the best place for maths imo, probably because I had Carrotsticks as my teacher though......

Both Adv Maths and Chemistry SUCKS at Matrix. I recommend going to someone like NGO for Maths and ACE or Sigma or PEAK.
I'm looking into a few places so thankyou for the suggestions. In your opinion what was bad about Matrix?

Teaching was very very average and material is awful. Chemistry is downright terrible. Teachers aren't dedicated but material is average. NGO is good for maths. Has good teachers and good material. ACE has university students who know how HSC prep feels like. And I heard good stuff from Sigma and PEAK.

Personally, I really like Matrix. It's on the pricier end, but I think it's worth what you pay for. The theory books are really good imo, but like any other place, you need to actually do it to help. It's probably not worth if you're not going to commit to actually keeping up with the classes and the homework they give you. Someone said earlier as well, most of the teachers actually have PhD's in their fields or have degrees in teaching, so I justify it as paying for that (can't really compare tutoring from a student who just finished the HSC to people who are technically experts in the subjects). Also you get those 1 on 1 workshops (?) with tutors who sit down and fill in any gaps or just help you with whatever you're struggling with which was really cool. If you're like me and find it hard to ask questions in a class-based setting, those workshops were a blessing.

Highly recommend Avenue Tutoring at Padstow Heights for Adv Maths. They are outstanding and the tutors own the business, so they are invested in your education and ensuring you are happy with the content.
