Create tiny small little nuclear reactors for home power generation? Minature ones that provide enough power for one house.

- people who know stuff, is it possible to minaturise nuclear reactors and why/why not?

No, you need to generate enormous amounts of heat to turn the turbines effectively, Fuel rods need replacing by experts, you need large areas of radiation sheilding to make it safe and the rod clamps etc get bent by the nuetrons flying out from the core and so need continual replacing.....

Reactors also do not work below a certain "critcal mass" that enables chiain reaction.

The ANSTO OPEL reactor has a core of only 1 square metre but requires a thirteen metre hole in the ground to fill with moderator/insulator.

It would also allow terrorists easy access to allow radiation to escape causing cancers etc

Having said this, they are possible, just not econimically viable or entirly safe to operate if you don't know what your doing...
Its much cheaper/easier to have large reactors powering many homes

Amazing.

2nd question:

-Why are these not being implemented?

for the reason outlined in my above post, not economically viable + chenoble stigma

i dont know, in the link SHODAN posted, the reactor could power 10,000 homes for $25million

thats pretty economically viable imo

ou can make the reactor but they are only useful for producing radio isotopes, not powering homes...Look at the Uni course i plan on doing, I actually know about this stuff!
fucking hell do you have aspergers or something

you havent done the course yet have you

no, but I've done heaps of background reading into this, Am quite interested in this kind of thing and have nothing better to do with my time than find out how reactors work and post on BOS...Believe it or not, I do know what I'm talking about

Or you could just use a Pebble Bed Reactor, which are much smaller (although probably still too large to pragmatically power a single house).

It would also allow terrorists easy access to allow radiation to escape causing cancers etc
lol.
QUIT WORYING ABOUT THEM, D00D. YOU'RE LETTING THEM GET TO YOU. YOU'RE LETTING THEM WIN, MAN.

True, you could use a pebble bed but still need the expertise to run it! one day it will happen but not yet, the technology still isn't there, its not cheap enough, anyway, open pool reactors are cheaper than pebble bed reactors

Actually, i have studied this kind of thing before, I know the basic principles (and some of the more complex ones) behind nuclear reactors....I know the pro's and cons of various reactors and what each can be used for, you need over 70% enriched uranium to produced power and you need at least 100kg of the stuff, 5-10kg can be used for medical isotope production...You can use substances other than uranium but this is very cost preventative (ask your friendly ANSTO tour guide if you don't believe me (or consult a text book))

well obviously I mean faith in government not being evil and stupid

Although still delusional, it's less delusional to believe something in the absence of evidence (belief in god) than it is to believe something in the face of contrary evidence (belief in government).
