4unit english is diff to 4unit maths.

cause 4unit maths students will prolly get ~100 in 2unit course anyway, thus advantage them greatly.

4unit english is just an extention of the 2unit course. ie. the major work. It doesn't really prove you will do really well in 2 unit course.

IMO, if u do Ext 2 maths it should be worth 50, as an addition to 2U and Ext 1. I'm doing well in 2U, but in Ext 1 i have a fair bit of competition and i average around 80%. so the fact that i would have to sacrifice my 2U mark to do Ext 2 discourages me from doing it. i'd probably be better off sticking with plain Ext 1. problem is, i want to do Ext 2 :(

Have a whinge. We'd still kill the 2 unit anyway, do you realise how much easier it actually is?

8 Units of science is enough for a good student - 8 Science, 2 English. That's all you need. 9 Units of science would be wasted, and we all know they're not backing off the compulsary English.

they should still make extensions for the sciences available. i only do chemistry, and i like it. if they had ext chem i would do it. but i don't do physics/bio - so 3 units of science would be good for me.

its scaled average isn't too good

but you can get 100 UAI doing any combination of courses

i think there are some combinations in which u can't get a UAI of more than 99 or so. but that would only occur if a student did all the low-scaling subjects. it's mainly the fact that the lower-scaled subjects are capped. so i don't think every subject combo can get 100.

Mmm, that's true... if the courses you selected were mostly capped, then you could be prevented from obtaining 100.

But, generally, people who want or are capable of obtaining 100 won't pick the types of courses that are liable to be capped. :)

A combination including courses like Food Technology, Music 1, IPT and Dance might be under such a limit. Or Textiles & Design, French Beginners, Senior Science and General Maths.

Most people only take a couple of those courses, not all of them. And even if you did, you'd only be limited to 99.50 or so. Mmm.

there might be some people who are smart and enjoy the low-scaled subjects. in that respect, i guess they're just unlucky (but the only uni course u'd be excluded from is Law at USyd i think).

as u can by my sig, my aim is 99.85 :):) and i do business studies (below average scaling). however i do 13 units and all the rest scale pretty well.

when i chose my subjects i figured that 3 units wouldn't count and whether i chose business or physics, more than likely it wouldn't count. and i'd be better of doing business (for my planned career and uni)....probably won't count as part of the top 10 unless i get 95+ in it though.
