I remember when I used to finish really early - for the last three or so semesters, my last assesment would be early in the last week. Then I'd rub it in peoples' noses. And they'd get angry. And I'd haha them.

Now I understand how everyone felt. *Needs a hug*

My day:

Got woken up at 12 by postman delivering: Stargate SG-1 series 9, Stargate Atlantis series 1, two books, and my passport.

Lie in bed, drift off to sleep til about 1.

Pron til 1:30.

Watched Atlantis episodes til about 3, at which point I ate breakfast, on my balcony in the sun, reading my new books.

Two more episodes of Atlantis.

Wowed. Three games of Arathi Basin - came in top 5 for healing, damage, and kills in every game. Very happy, especially considering I still have gear for a level ~45-55.

Sat on the internet from about 5 til now, considering going to uni to bind all my loose pages floating around my study and see a lecture at 8.

^ That's the best part.

Was the HSC worse than this? It was right? I've forgotten. Let's hope I don't forget this so I don't come back for more.
Lol, dunno how much effort you put into the HSC, but it's totally incomparible for me. I think for the HSC, I did a bit of consistent study for Japanese, but everything else was just before the exams. All assessments were done at the last moment (like now, but I would do an "all-nighter" rather than an "all-weeker"). No effort at all in the HSC - just got by with reasonable brain and the ability to write fantastically on the spot.

Now it's like no matter how much work you do, there's always someone in the class better than you, even if you're getting the top marks. Argh, I'm getting angry thinking about it. :anger:

No way was the HSC worse than uni. In the hsc all you had to do was past papers and remember the answers lol. Here in uni you've actually got to know wtf is going on, and even then you get some random questions which you have nfi about.

Plus you get months in the HSC while at uni you gotta cram a shitload into a few weeks before exams.

In the HSC, my 3unit math class was, no offence, nowhere near my level. Now at uni, people are in disbelief that I didn't do 4unit maths :bomb:

I also find it really annoying when the following conversations happen:

me "I hope I go okay in my exam"
guy from average Catholic school I went to "bro you'll get HD bro, coz you're a genius"

If EVERYBODY in your course is a high achiever, the standards are catered towards the average student in your course, who is a high achiever. It just gets really frustrating repeatedly explaining that to people.

Why would anyone take offense at you saying that you weren't at the level of 3unit maths? :S

I don't get your point either, to be honest.

Yeah agreed. My family's the worst, because doing well/spending time at uni wasn't really a priority for any of them, so they really have no idea.

Me: Eeek, assessments, exams, eek!
Family: Don't worry, you put so much time into it, you'll do well.
Me: Most people in my classes put more time in.
Family: *Dazed looks*-

The best solution is to have a few friends in your classes who want to do well, or at least understand (and appreciate) what you want - whatever that is - out of your study. Otherwise the work just gets frustrating.

Ah, I mean that, at the school level, unless you go to a really high achieving school, and you're a high achiever yourself, the other kids will often be below the level of acheivement that you're at, and they regard you as a freak, or a genius or whatever, coz I was a lot better than anybody else in my class at 3unit.

Now at uni, pretty much everybody in my course did 4unit maths and are in shock when they found out I didn't do it, coz Actuaries are expected to own 4unit maths hard, and it seems really different compared to "z0mg you pwn 3uniiT!" like I got in high school.

YOu're on of the very few actuarial students who didn't do 4unit. I know where you are coming from. You went to one of those schools that didn't offer 4u yeah?

When I was in high school, I was reasonably high up there in terms of ranking, hit actuarial and I was middle at first, then ended up falling lower and lower.

Sort of. I didn't accelerate maths, and they only offered 4unit to year 11 3unit accelerants, and the accelerated program is really odd at my school, we have to start accelerating from year 9, and in the end accelerants get 2-3 goes at 2unit, starting from year 10. I didn't think it was a big deal, so I didn't fight it, but in 3unit, I was ranked with the 4uniters anyway (me and one other 3unit guy who didn't accelerate) and the rest of the grade were noticeably below us.

In fact, some of the accelerants, even on 2nd and 3rd tries, couldn't get a band 6 in 2unit, let alone an E4 in 3unit, so looking back it seems kind of weird lol

I accelerated 2unit maths in Year 11. We crammed 3unit Year 11 in a short time, and started 4u later that year. We were geared for it since Junior School too, the top two maths classes at least, with the final numbers decided at end of year 10.

I remember some of the other 3unit students always kept up with the 4unit students. Only a couple.

That's pretty bad not getting Band 6 as an accelerant!
