BRUCE HALL - Packard Wing
The new Packard wing at Bruce Hall provides studios with individual kitchens and bathrooms for postgraduate and later year undergraduate students.
The Packard wing was named in honour of Bill Packard OAM, the founding Warden of Bruce Hall (1961-1986). Bill was instrumental in shaping the Hall's culture, developed Inward Bound, the ANU's premier inter-Hall event and continues to support the Hall's activities to this day.
Bruce Hall provides 66 single rooms and 12 double rooms for couples in the Packard wing. Each room has either a single or double bed, wardrobe, desk, chair, fridge, kitchenette and bathroom facilities. The rooms are centrally heated and carpeted. Floor plan for single room
The Packard Wing offers a 40-week contract at $198 per week for single rooms and $283 per week for double rooms.
Rooms in the Packard wing are self-catered and cooking facilities (sink, microwave, benchtop oven/hot plate and bar fridge) are provided in room.
Your rent includes electricity, heating and water charges.
Each room has a phone with Voicemail. Residents can make internal hall and on campus calls at no charge. Local, STD and international calls are charged at competitive rates negotiated by the University.
All rooms have internet connections. We also have a Computer Lab that contains PC’s and Macintoshes. The Hall also has an extensive intranet, administered by residents.
Union Court, lecture halls and shops are just a few minutes walk away. Canberra’s cbd is also within walking distance and buses depart regularly from outside the hall to all major shopping centres.
Bruce Hall provides a comprehensive support network, including the Head, Dean of Residents, Sub-Deans and Senior Residents. Tutorial rooms are also available.
Bruce Hall provides facilities for music practice and also for performance of music. There are several piano’s and soundproofed music rooms. We also have an art studio and dark room.
The Hall has laundry and dryer rooms, these are available to all students and the cost is included in the weekly tariff. Residents need to provide their own laundry detergent
A University parking permit must be purchased before you are issued with a Resident parking permit which will allow you to park in Bruce Hall designated areas. Canberra's network of bike paths and public transport is quite good, so we encourage residents to save money and not bring a car.
Residents are responsible for cleaning their own rooms, vacuum cleaners may be borrowed from the Senior Resident or Housekeeping. Bruce Hall has regular room inspections for Packard Wing.

Smoking is prohibited in all University buildings . Designated smoking areas are located outside and away from all buildings.
There are a small number of rooms available for students with physical disabilities. Please contact the Hall to discuss your needs.
To me, the most impressive aspect of life in Bruce Hall is the initiative and responsibility students take for promoting vigour and quality of community life and the care they exercise for each other.
