You can either download Sun's JVM or Microsoft's (now discontinued due to legal action from Sun).

You can download Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine (my preference) at:

http://newplanet.org/prosac_upload/tmp/MSJavx86.5.0.3809.0.exe

Java VM Build 3809 - visit www.windowsupdate.com to Update this JVM to 3810 or download it from:

http://download.windowsupdate.com/m...l/MSJavWU_8073687b82d41db93f4c2a04af2b34d.exe

edit
Microsoft's JVM isn't so much 'discontinued', but it isn't bundled with Windows, and has been removed in Service Pack 1a (it is included in Service Pack 1, I believe). Microsoft only offer a limited amount of continual development I believe for it's own JVM (security fixes, rather than 'new' features).

Further, the reason why I don't use Sun's JVM is because (in my opinion), it is much slower than Microsoft's JVM. I've always used Microsoft's one and have had no problems with it. If the above links do not work (they are working at the time of posting), then you can always google it for more links:

Keywords: "java virtual machine 3809" (you can then upgrade to 3910 via Windows Update, or using the above link).

You can't get the microsoft JavaVM anymore, due to court battle.

The sun one is far better anyway.

everyone should get it, java is good.

well at least microsoft doesn't automatically install it anymore.

besides your java will be incredibly out of date if you install the microfost one.

it only supports up to 1.1

while, the sun one supports up to 1.4.2

microsoft is trying to destroy java by only supporting up to 1.1

the slowness you are experienceing is fixed in 1.4.2

You're not doing it properly...

- Download it (Sun or Microsoft)
- Install it
- Restart (if required)
- Go to a java-based website to see if it works.

I have downloaded all the files off the 5-6 URLs I posted, they are working as we speak. (Unless, of course, you're talking to the other posters who gave their Sun URLs)

Because all of my links are working, they were working at the time of posting and they work as of now (I've just tested it!)

edit
Protector's URL (java.sun.com) as well as his download links work.

I just visited the Sun website and downloaded the file, they are both online.

btw, java.com is basically the same as going to:

http://java.sun.com
www.sun.com/java
www.java.com

They are all part of Sun Microsystems.

don't download the microsoft versions, it will just be aiding microsoft destroy java.

The java site now uses an auto downloader, which doesn't work sometimes.

try the manual download.

Agreed. No need for microsofts version plus, as jm1234567890 mentioned, the slowness has been fixed.

I might give Sun Microsystem's version of Java VM a go the next time I format.

Microsoft's JVM has always been good to me, and I rarely ever visit any websites which require Java - moreoften than not the 'better' sites require Flash, before Java.
