hey, i recently heard from a jamre ruse student the process if u come 1st in a subject. Apparently if u come first and say u come 3rd in the hsc (from ur school) u get 50% of ur mark u got, and 50% of the person who came firsts mark. Is this true? and if so does it apply to subjects like ext 2 eng where there are only 6 or so ppl doin it at my skool and it is a marked piece rather than a test??????

That isn't quite right, no.

You should read this thread for the official details regarding the moderating of assessment marks.

In short, the marks of a student who is ranked first in a particular course will be as follows:

Examination Mark - The mark they personally received in the HSC exam.
Assessment Mark - The top examination mark for their class.

The two are combined in a 50/50 combination to give the final HSC mark.
