Im kinda worried that some of these private colleges wont be as recognised by employers or companies as much as unis. Can anyone reassure me on this?

and is it possible, if i start a bachelor course in a private college and do very well, can i then use that to transfer to second year of a uni course? cause i think unis want u to have done a uni course, not a college course. not sure.

Generally private colleges specialise in one field for which they are known in the industry, and from my experience they are generally better regarded in these specific areas than universities. This is mainly because many universities do not generate the same amount of specialised and practical experience, instead having (in general) more theory based units supplemented by a range of electives.

Also, as long as a degree (or even a diploma) is nationally recognised in the qualifications framework (and most of the larger private colleges are) then your results can be considered and ranked by UAC in transfer applications. As far as the paperwork is concerned, there is no difference whatsoever between university and college qualifications - so long as they are properly accredited.

I went to Qantm in 2002. To this day I still haven't found a single employer who even knows who they are much less gives the qualification any consideration. Before I had work experience backing me I was seriously having employers want to know my HSC results because they placed more value on that than the Qantm diploma.

That wouldn't be so bad if I'd at least actually learnt something from the course... but that's another story entirely

I've also had several other mates take the private college route in various fields including JMC, SAE and CGC. None of them had positive experiences at all. The only two I know who are at all successful are one who started their own business because they couldn't find any work with the qualification, and one who ditched their plans at audio engineering entirely and became a plumber. I also attended another private college (Spherion/Computer Power) and let's just say I now own Australia's most valuable piece of toilet paper as a result of graduation.

If you're already a gun in your chosen field it can't hurt to go (other than the wasted time and money). If you're expecting the course itself to get you anywhere... don't do it.

Private colleges are still last resort for those who missed out due to not achieving the uai.

As FerretallicA have said, obviously they aren't as recognised names as a university...hence when going for a competitive position, employers are likely to choose a uni grad (from a reputable uni of course) before giving private school grads a chance.

I heard more bad things about private colleges like KvB, billy blue etc than good things about them. (Mostly because they are money greedy and they are willling to take anyone on board as long as they can afford it) pretty much, you are 'Buying' the degree..

i recently did a short fashion design course
last week at kvb
at the end of each academic year they have
a fashion show which has family, friends
employers and people in the industry.
but i think you may be talking about
graphic design?? =S

it all depends on what area you're wanting to go into. because you have graphic design, communication design, media design and music listed in those list of colleges. if you want to go into music, jmc really isn't a good option.

hey trax2, im looking at going to kvb.. is it good? i would study interior design which is obviously not what you studyed but what can you say about the campus and the facilities etc?
