If you're really considering a mac, hold out until Semester 1 starts next year - they will probably throw in a iPod touch with it (like they did in the US)

Vaio's are very nice, but also very expensive... I'd recommend one of the business models if you're only going to have a laptop

Otherwise, I'd agree with other BoSers - get a desktop.

If you're doing architecture at UNSW don't get a Mac. A friend of mine does it and everything in their course runs on PCs.

If you're doing it somewhere else, I have no idea.
