My girlfriend has recently lent me her laptop to do my 4U Major Work on. I am constantly distracted whilst on my home PC, and a laptop would hopefully remedy this problem, as I won't have the net on it to play with. Due to the fact that I can type 110 wpm however, I have decided that it may be a good idea to take it to school with me, and use it in class. Touchtyping whilst the teacher is talking would definately improve the amount of notes I have, and at the same time it would all be so much more organised, and easy to archive. Please note my handwriting is FINE, I've never had any troubles with it, but I can definately type alot faster than I can write.

The battery on this laptop only lasts an hour which would do me for one lesson - I guess I'll have to start sitting near powerpoints.

I also need to first ask my teachers if it's okay for me to use a laptop in class.

Does anyone else use a laptop at school, and how much has your notetaking improved since you started doing so?

umm.. I have tried to do so. However, I've actually found that if I use short-hand writing to write up whatever the teacher is saying, then retype and archive into my home main comp, its actually perhaps much easier.

Cos, for example in maths, some signs or symbols can't be typed into your computer, and u are resorted to using say theta,etc...

But its really up to you in the end ^^

I won't be using my laptop for maths.. only adv english, ext1 english, ext2 english, and modern history. I might network it with the computers in the IT room too heh. maths I'll use books for.

and yeah I'm still going to keep a folder with plastic sleeves in it for handouts and everything.

I use one. Mine's a tablet PC so for things like mathematics I just write it out on the computer as I would in a book.

My friend brings a laptop to school. She used to bum around, but it's made her more focused in class. She doesn't play games on it either lol

I was using a laptop sometimes (due to disability) when i was at school, but I preferred handwriting. I have a laptop now to help me with Tafe stuff but still handwrite. As for batteries alot of computers now have back-up battery modules. My laptop (which is only a few months old) has 3 hours battery life without the back- up battery and six to seven hours with the back-up battery. I have a massive hard drive so when I have the back up battery in I save my work to the hard drive then when I get home or whatever I take out the back up batt and put the disk or CD drive in and save my work on there so I can put it on the desktop comp to print. Then I just delete the stuff of the laptop hard drive.

so what happens when you have to do the HSC?

and yeah, the battery life on this is short, but that's okay considering I didn't pay for it :p

I just used the laptop for the first time.. I got heaps more work done than I usually would in class.

the only issue is due to its weight (it's a pretty heavy laptop) it's difficult to carry around. my shoulder hurts. woe.
