"the holgas use medium format film, whichi is 120mm where as normal film is 35mm. this allows for much better quality prints, and they look amazing especially when shot with the holga, but the rolls are about 15 dollars (maybe more) then you have to get the roll developed (there are only three places in syd that develop MF) and then you have to get the prints from your chosen negatives, so there are three sets of costs.
i have one, but have not deveoped a roll yet as i am too scared as to the price"

wah! :(

After reading the Wikipedia article, I still have no idea as to what lomography is.

The following are the company's 10 Rules of Lomography:

1. Take your LOMO everywhere you go and whenever you go.
2. Use it any time - day or night.
3. Lomography is not an interference in your life, but a part of it.
4. Shoot from the hip.
5. Approach the objects of your lomographic desire as close as possible.
6. Don't think.
7. Be fast.
8. You don't have to know beforehand what you've captured on film.
9. You don't have to know afterwards, either.
10. Don't worry about the rules.

So its basically just shit photography?

it's amature analogue photography.
dont expect clear crisp colours and beautifully composed shots. (because you might as well go digital for that and fix things with photoshop)
think old school, candid, high contrasts, light streaks and lens flare.
though professional photographers would cringe at the words
its actually getting more popular within artists medium because of it's uniqueness
and the fact that its pretty much one off with all the photos you end up taking.
it's not about creating the best image possible but to have fun and to see your world in a new perspective.

don't get the holga starter kit. you for seriously don't need half of that shit. the holga will cost you like $30 on ebay. buy over the internets. same goes for film

i only use the medium format film when i'm rich. it's like $14 retail for the film, then 20 to develop. v exxy. you can use 35mm film really easily, and that's crazy cheap.

haha wow. lomos are my favourite types of camera! i own the diana version.
Basically lomo was a brand of camera back in the 1960's but then they stopped makng them. now they are making them again but have just updated them sliiightly while keeping their vintage style of photo taking. with lomo cameras you can expect dreamy, soft, colourful shots that always make it look like you're on a holiday in somewhere amazing even if youre just in your back yard. they add different colours to your photos, and the beauty about them is that they are all film so it is definatley a challenge to some people who are so used to digital's convenience of deleting straight away.
the thing is though, this makes photos so much more artistic than any digital photos that can be taken nowadays. they are random, apre of the moment shots that have a quirkyness and originality to them.

lomos therefore are targeted at photoraphers with an artistic edge rather than general camera users. not for the brave.
its expecting the unexpected.
