Hi there,
In regard to the Maglev trains I have a question that puzzles me, but you might
find easy to answer.
I was wondering if it would be possible to design a similar train by putting
the electric field to use (not using a magnetic field at all).I am doing some
research on the benefits and possible alternatives to the more common maglev
train.
Thanks very much.

I think the problem with that is that it would require alot of money to maintain a constant electric field strong enough. Not to mention that it is the magnetic fields that keep the train levitated due to the meissner effect.

Tommy it isnt always hte meissner effect, the running maglev trains just rely on both train and track using electromagnets.

Li0n there was a crash a few years ago in Germany I think it was, concerning the maglev train, look up what caused that.

yer ok, fair enuff xayma

but what about the cost of maintaining an electric field for that long and that powerful compared to running a magnetic field :p

Not to mention breakdown of insulators from such large potential difference (quite possible). But it's an interesting thought.

Surprisingly energy consumption is very economical in MagLev trains...
Which is why it's got the potential to revolutionise the transportation industry as the airplane did in the 20th century...
