you're ignoring how tolerant Islam is. The article is clearly misleading you. Somehow.

I'll try :)

You're all looking at this through a heavily biased Western viewpoint. Afghanistan is a sovereign nation (as far as I know) and they have the right to enforce the laws that they established there according to their culture and tradition.

How would you feel if there was a country, maybe the Netherlands or something where Child Porn was actively encouraged and enjoyed by the community, and they called us barbaric for banning it. It's no different. To the average Afghani (as far as I know), not being Muslim is as immoral, if not more immoral, than say murder or rape to the mind of a Westener.

Islam on the whole is a tolerant and peaceful religion that preaches peace and tolerance. Do not judge the Afghanis with your Western morals.

i don't think america has achieved very much full stop

but in relation to the topic...yeah id have to argee with what Captain Gh3y said previously...you looking at this from a western background viewpoint and so you would be biased...you don't know the full story and until you do you shouldn't make judgements about how another country runs things.

Just because there are still barbaric religious laws being practiced, doesn't mean that the country is not better. It is better than it was before, there are less barbaric laws and changes are occuring...

That's bullshit. The law is wrong. It is not a fair law. Another culture is one thing, basic human rights is another.

Are we wrong to judge the murder of six million Jews in Germany due to it just being a part of their culture?

Don't be such an apologist. It's an unfair law and you're a fool to argue otherwise.

I struggle to think of a single post of yours that doesn't play a little role in convincing me that you have some sort of mental problem.

I agree. :( Just because someone has a different set of ideals/beliefs doesn't mean I should deny them basics such as food, water, *cough* LIFE. Acting in physical self-defence is one thing, but... killing someone because they have converted to another religion? Ostracising, whilst still sort of morally wrong from a Western perspective, would probably be ok from an Afghani perspective. But killing is an entirely different matter.

The dude isn't going to kill people because he's Christian, the country is not going to shatter to pieces just because it is not 100% Islamic.

That being said I'm also highly against the death penalty. I don't believe any human has the right to take the life from another human, whether as part of a crime or as 'justice'.

See, but the thing about cultural relativism is that people would have you believe that your thoughts on what can and can't be denied aren't important, because it's not your country and you're just an uninformed outsider with no idea of how things work over there. To this end, your view, or spiny thinking that it's an "unfair law", really aren't an issue, because neither of you are running their country or making their laws.

Just for fear of being associated with the genuine morons who have come out of the woodwork here, I'll clarify that I don't agree with this at all, and my initial point in bringing this up at all was to highlight that I think that it's ridiculous how people can use differences in culture to excuse death penalties over drugs or whatever in one country, and at the time pounced on every thread regarding these issues to explain that that's the way it goes when in rome, but then when it comes to someone being put to death over religion it's somehow not fair and all of a sudden people thinking it's wrong matters again, and all the people who should be protesting about cultural relativism justifying this action are somehow unaccounted for.
