Manual License vs Automatic License (1 Viewer)

I want to apply for my automatic license so i can take my mums car.
Though i wanna go for my manual license so i can drive a manual car in future.
Does anybody know about the licensing?

For eg. If you have a manual license, can you drive an automatic transmission car?

Or can you only drive according to your license?

Cause i heard they changed the rules or something?

If you have any sources please post them up cause i cant seem to find any information on the RTA website.

afaik:
manual - you may drive both automatic and manual
auto - you can only drive automatic; heavy penalties apply if your caught driving a manual (with your P1 license).

Dude, just do the test in automatic and just drive your mums car around until you obtain your green P2 licence. Once you obtain that, you can drive manual around.

Get your licence in a manual if you can. If not, you'll be upgraded at soon as you get you P2's anyway.

when you get your license in a manual car, you have the luxury of driving such cars throughout your P1s.

when you get your license in automatic, you have to wait until you get your P2 license before you can drive manual.
