Hey anyone doing materials engineering? I was wondering if you get to make actual objects from the materials you study in the course? I want to go into engineering because I want to apply the sciences, but I wonder if materials engineering is that practical? Thanx

You would do a lot of practical work in your course certainly, like you would be dealing with molten metals a lot, and forming and strengthening processes. You can also get into welding and stuff like that. There are lots of scholarships going in that area too. But you must remember that you will most likely not be designing anything from scratch so much as choosing appropriate materials for other peoples designs. Hope this helps.
