So whats there to do in Melbourne? I'm thinking of heading down in November / December. Is taking the car worth it, or is the public transport there decent?

If you're staying near or in the city then you won't need a car, public transport is really good apart from the trains not always running on time!

There's lots of places to go, depends what you like really.

Acland Street, St. Kilda - shopping, luna park, good food and music, market on sundays, best place to go to the beach on a hot day

Chapel Street, Sth Yarra- shopping, clubs, Jam Factory, pubs, good music

Flinders lane, little collins street, city- shopping, alternative shops, clubs

Bourke street, city- myer, david jones, metro, cinemas ---- main city shopping mall, good music shops etc

Lygon Street- Italian district, great food, music and drink...

Albert park lake/Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre- basketball courts, swimming pool, albert park lake is where the aus grand prix is every year..

I'm not too sure what you're interested in but there's a bit of everything there....

reply back and tell me what you want to do and i'll tell you the best place for it

Basically it's decent for shopping and nightlife. Melbourne is all about the CBD. Compared to Sydney the suburbs aren't as diverse, but public transport is awesome and there's plenty of things to do in the city.

My friends are going to Melbourne in November to see Monty Python. Eh I'm not really interested in that so I'm just going to go sightseeing or something. I'm only going for the weekend, I don't think that's enough time to do the things I want to do lol :(

oh dude. Melbourne is fucking awesome if you're into the nightlife, and shopping, it is the best place in Australia for both of those.

Already been suggested but definently visit the Crown Casino. While your there definently check out Club Odeon, pretty sure they have live music on Sundays. Drinks aren't too expensive and the dancefloor is good. good balanced crowd too.

When I first went they had 3 nightclubs in crown but now there's only odeon, I have not been for awhile but they may have replaced 'heat' and 'mercury lounge' (which was the best club ive ever been too) with new ones.

Check out Barcode in Crown, good for relaxing. And the shops don't close until really late in the complex. The casino of course, good resturants there too.

Definently go to Chapel Street, check out Lotus Bar near the train station there too.

If you're into more underground clubs go to St Kilda. 'Area 66' or something like that is similar to 'club 77' in sydney. the beach there is nice too and they also have a luna park there.

That new ad for Melbourne, saying its easy to lose yourself in Melbourne is SOOO true! I spent hours wandering our the Melbourne Museum, and the ther museums when it was too cold and windy to go walking. There are so many things to do there!

if you take a car, definately go for those coastal drives!
