Just wondering, what exactly is the difference between the 2? 1 textbook says that they are very similar except that mental rehearsal is imaginig the whole performance whereas visualisation is imagining only a specific skill but another textbook says the opposite. So which exactly is it?

Visualisation incorporates the senses. You can imagine what race day will feel like, what the surroundings will be like, how you will feel in a race, and a particular point in the race etc.

Mental rehearsal should be done in real time (i.e. if you are doing a 400m run, you rehearse the whole race in your mind to help yourself prepare for it).
