I recently got offered a merit scholarship from Macquarie and i'm planning on completing a degree in actuarial studies. One of the things i'm concerned about is whether the scholarship is beneficial in meeting potential employers and gaining work experience. From open day, i've been told that work experience is invaluable in finding a job, expecially for an Actuarial student. However i've also been told that the merit scholars program and scholarship which supposedly gives 'priority access to a host of opportunities such as advanced programs, internships and international studies subject to academic performance', is not really all that it's made up to be and you just get to go to events and meet the VC.
So i would just like to ask if the merit scholarship actually offers any 'concrete', for lack of a better term, ways to meet potential employers or are employers not that interested in you getting the scholarship or not?
