Hi ppl,

The question is What motivations are absent from government ownership??

do you guys/girls have any ideas/hints on how to answer this wanky question???ive googled it and wasnt happy with the info.

so if u know any good web-sites/economics textbooks, please help

This might not help but...

maybe consider two things:

1. your post appears to be in the wrong place.

2. treat it as a more philosophical question.

If it were me, I'd suggest that the obvious answer is the lack of a pure profit motive in government ownership. The lack of desire to maximise profit due to the political considerations of the fact that the asset/service is in government ownership.

Consider issues such as privatisation of major assets eg Telstra, Cth Bank. I would then try to work in discussions of:

a. user pays concept vs provision of social goods
b. QUANGOs
c. distribution/re-distribution of wealth
d. minimum service requirements
e. public/private partnerships eg toll roads

I hope this gives you a few leads.
