Dat's easy. If u have 1 E, den u have 6 more letters left to go in 2 spaces. The E can go infront, in between, or after the 2 spaces

So combos of 1 E which will repeat = 6 x 5 x 3 = 90

8p3 - 18 - 90 = 228
ie. spicegals answer!

This explains everything. I couldnt work out why the 2 methods were getting separate answers, but after reading ur quote everything fits in!

Group similar items together and order them:
AAAOOPPPWWW

Write it with fences:
AAA|OO|PPP|WWW

This can be written as:
000|00|000|000
and we know what combination of fruit it has (because it was ordered).

So now the question becomes, how many ways can you write those 14 symbols (11 0's and 3 |'s)?

The answer is:
14!/(11!3!)

= 364.

So yeah, nice work BlackJack.

No... I remember our 3u maths teacher showed it to us during one (1) lesson and I'm fairly certain we never ever used it, or we forgot about it and got all those questions wrong.
