well Chem, Maths methods, bio and english aren't too vastly different (though I see you're doing yr 12 bio atm anyway).

Not sure what is equivalent human developemnt (maybe PDHPE) and no idea what the equivalent/if one exists for visual communication.

And to whoever said how you you know, trust me I have knowledge of the VCE.

I moved from Melbourne to Sydney half way through year 11 (last year). In Melbourne i was scoring top marks but after moving to Sydney my marks drastically dropped due to the difference in criteria etc. Also some of the courses overlapped (what was done in vce at the start of the year was partially repeated in the later year of HSC) so i missed out on some of the prelim course.

Due to my high grades in Melbourne the school said i would automatically pass year 11 even if i didnt get good grades (which i didnt) as they would basically base them off how well i did in Melbourne (a school might do the same for you). However, as i have started getting use to the course criteria my grades have been picking up again. I suggest if you intend to go HSC switch in year 11 (even if its half way). This will help you get used to the course and how the system works. Over the school holidays you should probably do some extra revision to make sure you have covered everything. Also unlike the VCE where the work is partially based on what the teacher decides, here you have the syllabus which is practically set in gold. One of the best ways to catch up is download some "syllabus dot point notes" (plenty on this site) and thoroughly go through them. Those helped me immensely.

Another piece of advice for when you switch, unlike VCE the usual weekly coursework does not count to any marks (only the major assessments and the exams), so make sure you put alot of effort into your assignments even if it means you drop behind in coursework (which you can catch up on later). I made the mistake of focusing on the coursework under the impression i would be marked on it. Needless to say as a result my assessment grades werent anywhere near as good as they should have been. Now due to my shift in focus things are going well.

Overall changing from VCE to HSC is possible but you will need to put a bit of extra effort in until you get used to how the system goes.

Oh and btw year 11 finishes in term 3 not term 4 (like in melbourne) and instead year 12 starts in term 4...

Well I thought about vcom, I think the only somehow similar thing might be va, but if you're dropping meh. I'm not sure how they calculate your ATAR, I don't think they can mix VCE 3/4 with HSC courses-but check.

Selective schools you do have them in Melb, but they are much more a thing in Sydney/NSW in general. Melbourne only has 5 selective and 3 are very new, think NSW versions of John Monash Science School, Melbourne High, MacRobGirls high, Nossal high school and Suzanne Cory High School.

But honestly, you could adapt with LOTS of work/support but I'd try to stay in the system your comfortable in and minus the stress of moving and everything.

I will give you a Spiral summary.

There are things called the unit system in NSW. (Except ACT)

In Year 11 which runs from Term 1 to Term 3, you need to complete at least 12 units. In Year 12, which starts from Term 4. You need to have completed at least 10 units. Now depending on your school, there are certain subjects you can pick. [Note: English is compulsory.] Most subjects are 2 units with the exception of the minor few.

In Mathematics you have,

• General Mathematics (2 units)

• Mathematics (2 units)

• Mathematics Extension 1 (1 unit in Year 11 and 12, 2 units in Year 12 if you pick up Extension 2.)

• Mathematics Extension 2 (Can only do in Year 12, worth 2 units.)

Example

Bob moved to NSW. He picked Mathematics Extension 1 only in Year 11. (That means he's doing, Mathematics + Extension 1.) Hence 3 units. If he was in Year 12 he would be doing the same thing (assuming Extension 2 wasn't taken.)

I will have a flick through your maths methods syllabus. Yes you can do more than 10 units. But many people do 10-13. More than that it a overload and some schools don't allow you to do that much.

You should start doing NSW Maths now. Methods is quite different, although you use the same methods of integration. Specialist is also different from our highest maths offered and dare I say, I think the NSW Mathematics syllabus is more difficult. Wow, you guys get uniform motion formulas, de moivre's theorem and plenty of integrals. We only get a set of standard integrals. You even have your rules of differentiation!

Umm we have done probability, graphs - cubic, hyperbola, truncus, parabola and many more lol, functions and relations. That's all i remember from the top of my head.
Yeah, in year 11 and year 12 starts at like february 4 i guess but will have early commencement for two weeks at the start of december.

Just do year 11, seriously, NSW is like the smartest state in Australia. The competition is damn fierce even if you don't go to a selective school. The education level is also wayyyyy higher than other states. It will be foolish if you jump into Year 12 in a new system.

Plus, we have syllabus and I think VCE they don't have a syllabus and glossary of key words to confer to?
