-On my computer I have about 8gbs of Mp3s, I don't normally listen to old songs and sometimes I get A.D.D like symptoms where I constantly change songs and never listening to the whole song. (I read somehwer it's like over variety syndrome or something). Therefore if I had an ipod it would drive me nuts. Thats why I'd probably only need 512mb for one playlist.
I can't just set my ipod to shuffle my whole library cause I'd have to constantly change songs, which isn't too good to do whilst driving. So what I do is give about 30 or 40 of them 5 stars, then play my 'top rated' playlist so I don't have to keep changing songs.

I just bought an I-river H320 and I love it. What many people don't realise about the H320 is that one of the more recent firmware upgrades allows it to play *.avi movies (though they have to be encoded in a certain way).

Personally I like both the I-rivers and the Creatives out of the smaller players. The Creatives are very good value for money (as opposed to being cheap and nasty like the Shuffles :p)

PS : To whoever mentioned the Olympus m:robe, the only thing it has going for it is its looks. Apparently it takes terrible pictures and the touch screen isn't sensitive enough.

wait for the H10 to come out in 20gb form and buy that. the H320 already smashes the POS iPod, and the H10 looks much better than the H320.

Im a fan of the flash irivers, not a fan of the hard drive ones though, they are quite ugly for the people who created the iFP series.

i was just about to mention this
i was playing around on my friend's unit and the video play back is surprisingly good!
considering this is only a MP3 player, it does have some processing power to do movies as well
although only 10fps, this isn't that bad when you are watching anime or something like simpsons

i don't know why people buy ipods, especially the ipod shuffle which are totally not worth what you are paying for

why ipods dont support WMA, thats gay *cries*
Why do you need WMA support when nearly all songs downloaded from file sharing programs are in mp3 format?

The Iriver H10 is one majorly OVERPRICED and underspec'd packet of shit. It has gotten trashy reviews in the consumer magazines and no one buys them for good reason. It features the usual iriver flash player plastic construction rather than the sturdy metallic build of ipods and mrobes and costs the same as the the ipod photo at $499 yet has only 5gb Vs 30gb and "claimed" 12 hrs (actual tests by cnet managed only 9.7hrs battery life Vs an easy 15+ (17.1hrs in cnet tests) on the ipod photo or 18+(23 hours) hrs on the cheaper ipod mini gen2.
lol back to the drawing board Iriver, cos ipod spanks your crappy arse ;)

overpriced? yes. "underspec'd", i'm assuming you mean "underspeced" [if that is a word]. how are its specifications below iPods? give me three, excluding the physical difference and i will be happy.

It has gotten trashy reviews in the consumer magazines
what consumer magazines? are those consumer magazines reviewed by idiots who think any player which is easy to use good? can i get a review from a magazine specialising in audio, or even remotely computing?

and no one buys them for good reason.
that's becuase
1) Apple spends hundreds of millions advertising their "MP3-player"
2) walking past any shopping mall and i guarantee you will see the word "iPod" more than once.
3) several people are sheep who refuse to get off their asses to some research before spluring $400+ on an MP3 player that will last them for a few years.

instead, they see an iPod belonging to a friend and will get overly-excited because it looks "trendy", and will rush out to the nearest Apple dealer to pick one up, sauntering past JB-Hifi to even look at the iRiver. why? becuase i don't ever remember seeing iRivers being advertised, besides in a JB-Hifi or DSE catalogue on page 35 in the corner, as opposed to a Domayne's full-page catalogue on page 1.

It features the usual iriver flash player plastic construction rather than the sturdy metallic build of ipods and mrobes
i don't know where you're getting your facts from. my H320 is as sturdy as any other player. and MRobes? aren't they manufactured by a camera company?

and costs the same as the the ipod photo at $499 yet has only 5gb Vs 30gb
read above, i'm not arguing that's it's not overpriced. my arguement is simply, you get what you pay for. besides, try haggling down an iPod and an iRiver at any shop and see what reaction you get. they'll tell you to piss off if you even ask for $10 off the iPod.

and "claimed" 12 hrs (actual tests by cnet managed only 9.7hrs battery life Vs an easy 15+ (17.1hrs in cnet tests) on the ipod photo or 18+(23 hours) hrs on the cheaper ipod mini gen2.
your accusation is next to worthless without a link.

lol back to the drawing board Iriver, cos ipod spanks your crappy arse ;)
perhaps in your opinion, but i'll stick to a real MP3 player thanks.

edit: why am i arguing over this? to be honest i don't care what you think is a good MP3 player, or what sucks. you keep your iPod and i'll keep my iRiver. i'ld think a few extra millimetres of thickness, plus the plethora of features on the iRiver outweighs a thin MP3 player that sounds like crap and requires you to pay for additional features.

the N series... won't that thing cost around the thosand-dollar mark? plus it's only 4 gigs.

i would rather spend the money on a 20gb mp3 player, some nice earphones and spend the rest on a relatively good phone.

but whatever floats your boat.

you can always just get a z1010 and spend $40 on a memory card like me :p
or you can wait for the Z800 which is even better because it can store gigs

As requested, note the tardy file transfer speed and battery life of the iriver compared to the old ipod mini (1 st gen mini reviewed, current 2nd gen's battery life is in another universe compared to the shite iriver H10)

http://www.cnet.com.au/mp3players/harddisk/0,39029146,40004181,00.htm#

btw i meant underspec'd in terms of specifications compared to ipods of similar price ie HD size and battery life :chainsaw:

also no matter how much discounting u think u can can get on the hopelessly overpriced but below standard iriver H10, i seriously doubt they will be able to match the great value of the ipod mini with 10% educational discount :p
