McLake: Have people been posting shit in here and getting deleted? Or did you just scare them all off?

From what I understand of Nanotech, it's an emerging industry, meaning that you sort of have to create the jobs yourself. Most work in this field will be further research etc, and therefore a company with interests in this field would be anxious to take grads on board. Contact the faculty and ask them for informative brochures if anything I said sounds bogus.

This reminds me of the new HP/nanotechnology ads.

Pretty exciting stuff :)

it is true what lexi said abt nanotech being an emerging field .... and yes, the job prospects look good for the future. the question u need to ask urself is : how far will have nanotect progressed by the time YOU graduate?
if u are really interested in nanotech, i'd advise u to do it as a double degree with some degree which has job security ... if u cant find a job with nano, u can always pursue a career in the other field

Nanotech is just a new Materials Eng.
Materials Eng has been going down hill, Nanotech may just save it.

i reckon it is a big risk unless your really interested in it.
there are ~0 jobs in australia for nanotech right now and few for materials Eng.

They even say in the description that you will prolly have to start
your own nanotech firm.

Hence doubling with a business-oriented degree, problem solved!

Many companies have been formed by friends graduating from uni together. Some of them even do well!

I wasn't pretending to understand the content of the course, but rather the nature of nanotechnology in the greater market. Still, moving single atoms around seems pretty fundamental :p (don't blame me if you don't get the pun)

numbers dont determine popularity. bioinformatics, in its first yr, which had a uai of ~96 had 25 ppl in it ... :)

most computing firms (not those focusing on software) will be employing nanotech specialists very soon ... like hp, intel, ibm etc ....
