Need 3 more elective credit points? (1 Viewer)

The CUSP page for my degree (http://cusp.sydney.edu.au/students/view-degree-page/degree_id/205) says I need 24 credit points each semester. This works out for semester 1 with my elective being 6 credit points.

In semester 2, however, I want to choose MATH1004 i.e. Discrete Mathematics, but its only 3 credit points, meaning I now have a total of 21 credit points only for semester 2. There's no other elective with a credit point value of 3 points, so what can I do about this? Do I have to choose another 6-credit-point subject in addition to this?

I don't think there is another 3cp subject available. You could keep MATH1004 or take another 6cp. If you choose to do MATH1004, then you will need to take an extra 6cp sometime in the future in order to make sure you have at least 240cp so you can be awarded the degree.

Ahh so theres no other way to make up those 3cp? Can I take 6cp + 3cp electives next term to make up 9 total cp? Because I really want to keep MATH1004. How much would workload differ? Does a 3cp sub have half the workload or?

No, don't take more than 6cp of electives in 2nd semester, as your course probably wouldnt allow more than 24cp a semester anyway (like mine).
What im saying is if you want to take MATH1004, at some point your going to be left with only 237cp (because you did a 3cp elective rather than a 6cp elective). So then to avoid that, you would have to take an extra 6cp somewhere in your degree, but not so that you have more than 24cp in a semester, unless that is allowed in your degree resolutions (leaving you with an extra 3cp than is required in total).

Basically, if you want to do MATH1004 next semester, just take 21cp (your core and elective).

I did MATH1004 and MATH1005 last year, and yes 3cp is half the workload of a 6cp subject, but in many cases feels like it should be a 6cp subject itself.

I suppose summer school, or extending the length of your degree by a semester.

Haven't heard of it before! But according to this:

"To be considered for the program in your first year, you should normally have an ATAR (or equivalent) of 99.00 or higher and a band 6 result in at least one HSC science subject area or a mark of 95 or above in HSC Mathematics Extension 2. "

No, because I got an ATAR of 98.4 and a Maths Extension II mark of 94 :/

Shoot an email to the relevant staff members - you are very close and if you explain your situation (and how you're interested etc), there's a chance that they'll let you in.

How will this help in this issue?

Edit: "enrolled in degrees administered by the Faculty of Science (BSc, BMedSc, BPsych, BLAS and their specialist streams or combined degrees)." The B Engg/BSc degree is administered by the faculty of engineering. Will this be an issue?

Edit 2: I researched about the TSP and it seems like an incredible opportunity. Would I have to email the faculty of science to enquire about the possibility of entering with my marks?
