After downloading security updates, my computer has asked for windows login password during boot up.
Except I forgot my windows admin password as I've never used it since I got the computer.

Does anyone know of a way I could get back into my computer. I can't seem to to find my Windows Xp installation CD (i've got it somewhere in the house but I can't seem to find it).

Please help.

Did you set an admin password? By default none is set.

Have you tried the 'Can't remember your password?' option?
there isn't such an option

what you could do is log into safety mode and change the settings in user accounts

Hm but if there was a password you wouldn't be able to log into safe mode either..

if you want to do some research...

There is a linux hack which a lot of helpdesk support use when the admin password has been 'lost'.

it's just a boot floppy file that will override the admin password in windows.
I can't remember the name, but will help try to find if u would like.

Caution: this hack has been known to corrupt some registry entries.

another alternative... because it's Win XP... if you have another account with Admin rights, you can log in with that and reset the 'administrator' password.

Unless it's a different one you're talking about Ian, perhaps that's Austrumi?

50mb or so bootable linux iso (And I think you can get a floppy variant too), boot it, reset passwords, child's play. I've used that before on other people's computers and had good results, so if nothing on the link above that fatmuscle posted above helps out it might be worth a look, it's menu-driven and very easy to follow.

http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm#4 For more information (And indeed, any of the tools on that page might be appropriate. From memory a small section of the Austrumi interface was Italian only when I used it, so if you find this offputting something else on that page might be better) :)
