Hi Viridis, I lived in Herring rd apt b4. honestly if u want to find friends and prefer a place with good social life. u better choose MUV although its more expensive and also a less closer to uni..
i heard every month they have like bbq party and stuffs.. btw which part of indo u came from?

EDIT: the closest is herring rd to uni.. only like 5 mnts walk. however u can hardly meet anyone other than ur flatmates.. if u have sufficient funds , better choose MUV.
I think balaclava is in the middle in every aspect.. its closer than MUV but further than Herring... i think more socialised than herring.. and FYI lots of indos live there.

i have no idea about the proportion.. there must b some asians but most of the ppl must b international students, might include ppl from america etc..
i have indo friends living there as well.
there r many asians in mq especially in commerce degree.

i live not too far from herring apt

In terms of location, Herring Apt is the best, just about 5mins to SIBT bulding, and right opposite Macquarie center, 1min to the rail way station. However, its furniture is much older than that in MUV, room size is smaller, too.

Hey I am an international student too and i stayed at Robert Menzies College(RMC), residential college affiliated to MQ. Its the best place for a new international student to stay and there are heaps of SIBT students(indo also) staying there.

well, I think individuals perceive it differently.... Personally, my flatmates and I chat chit most of the time every day, except during exam time, and that's why my English has improved really quickly. But it's not the case for everyone, as there are probably some Chinese speakers in every unit, and they enjoy speaking Chinese in the house, so you sometimes may find it annoying (if u don't speak Chinese)... I got some friends next doors too, every one is happy with their flatmates, sometimes we ordered pizza and shared together....

The fact is, you obviously can ask them to communicate in English, my Chinese flatmate did it to other guys.....

Meh. Travelling to MQ will be a b*tch for me. Too bad boarding around the North Ryde area is beyond my budget.

Mate, any idea about the Macquarie Parklands apartments? They have similar rent rates. Any idea if they are better than Herrin Rd Apartments in terms of socializing with people and making friends?
