Re: Don't miss your chance to be part of the unveiling of our new image...

the lighthouse isn't even relevant? it's the macquarie lighthouse, the first in australia. furthermore, a lighthouse has symbolic meaning e.g. leading the way, providing light when there is darkness, etc.
if anything is irrelevant it's the new petals. what do they represent? that we have flowers on campus?
like someone said before, the logo makes it look more like a company or some organisation rather than a tertiary institution.

Re: Don't miss your chance to be part of the unveiling of our new image...

The logo is meaningless, its about as relevant as the lighthouse.

What is it? A leaf? A petal? A flame? A clam?

The only relevant aspect of it was supposed to be the star, which funnily enough they changed from the 7 point star to the star of david. And I really cannot believe that given the amount of 'research' and testing that it apparently went through, that someone did not pick up on the fact that it featured one of the most symbolic and value-laden symbols in the modern era.

It is modern and stylish, but it doesn't represent the university as an institution anymore than any other abstract logo/design.

Obviously, but as if that makes it a valid reason to change it, especially given that the new logo is complete nonsense.

Wow, you couldn't be more wrong! Talk about crazy conspiracy theories. The institutions linked to above are sub-brands of Macquarie University anyway ;)

The old logo isn't a crest and doesn't have many years of tradition behind it - it's from 1996. It's also widely hated across the University due to its phallicness.

I like the new logo. It's contemporary and fresh and much more polished than the old logo. And you might notice that 'university' is as big as 'macquarie', whereas in the old logo the word 'Macquarie' was highlighted over University. So there is actually more acknowledgment that it's an academic institution.
Thus sprache PR?

But seriously, this makes me lol. Are logos for universities supposed to be "contemporary and fresh"?

Fucking lol at you and the prusso nub.

At least it doesn't make the uni look like a cheap private college.

actually, the macquarie one is very similar now... lolz.
I prefer the UWS one.

No confusing transparencies, simple font, recognisable logo which rips of an already-established multibillion dollar one. *shrug* At least it's not asymmetrical to the point of making me seasick.

Re: Don't miss your chance to be part of the unveiling of our new image...

Sorry, faggy unUniversity guy here, but did they get rid of the "Australia's Innovative University" thing, or is it still there somewhere?

What makes it an 'Innovative' university anyways?

Zomg, I'm a faggy university guy! If only you were less unUniversity... We could be together. :(

To answer your question: It's gone. When we're rebranded, we're nolonger innovative.

Innovation Drive?
