New system problem (1 Viewer)

Hey, got new system recently...like yesterday recently. Installed XP on it, works fine except one of the two hard disks isn't present in Windows Explorer or anywhere else.

Both HDD's have been detected and Device manager says "This device is working properly". There is no option for enabling or disabling the second HDD.

The hard disks are connected through a single IDE cable.
I checked the connections, jumpers and the like - whatever the relationship (master/slave or cable select) it still isn't being detected...I hayte it >.<

The system:
Athlon 64 3200
Gigabyte K8NNXP (nForce-3)
1024MB RAM
LiteOn multiformat DVD burner
Radeon 9600XT 128MB
Audigy 2 ZS
Various other peripherals such as extra USB, F irewire ports.

Any ideas anyone?

First of all... is the second HDD detected during POST Screen?

Oh yeah, it is.
Sorry about that, I forgot >.<
That's why I'm so confused because its there in POST.

Is it a new drive or second hand drive? It could be formatted such that Windows could not recognise it.

Both new, both the same Seagate ST380011A 80G.

If your DVD burner is working, have you tried putting the non working hard disk into the DVD burner's channel? Or tried other channels and master/slave combinations?

Try using "Administration Options" in control panel. There is "Computer Management"

Select:
Storage
Logical Devices.

In there you SHOULD find "Drive 1" or something, it should be gray, with nothing on it. Right-click, "Create Partition"

I think your problem is a lack of format. If you can install XP on one, then its likely you just haven't got a partition...

First 3 things to check.

If its found in the BIOS:
- Partition exists?
- OS friendly partition?
- Hidden Partition? (some people will know what I mean)
