hmmmm iv heard abstract and absurdism has really been taking the cake in the past two years....................... sounds like a good idea!
Wouldn't count on it being 100% true... When you look at Onstage '03 + '04 the selected performances weren't really "absurd" or "abstract"... But with that in mind, i cast the rod back to Onstage 2002 when there was a piece titled "(gone blank - i can't remember... it had 3 people in a bath, messed up)", and there was another piece in that same year with 3 guys doing an absurdist genre'd piece... They were both really, really good (i thought) - but it's relaly hard to mark/watch absurdism... Some of you may be studying Godot/Zoo Story/Bald Prima Donna/Etc and if you have gone to see any of these in production, you'll realise how boring they are.. So, it's really hard to say whether if you do these you'll "take the cake" - i mean, you might get good marks, but since Onstage '02 and the performances mentioned above, I'm pretty certain Paul Viles and co have decided that it's not in the program's best interest to put these onto Onstage... Just for audiences' sake - sometimes they can be really boring... I mean, I saw Godot at Belvoir last year and i loved it, but 90% of my class hated it - it was pretty boring i must admit, but still i loved it... So, i mean in a roundabouts kindaway - doing absurd/abstract pieces could be limiting the performance to only certain spaces (such as your school for HSC marking - not going on to succeed further - ie being nominated for Onstage)...Originally posted by hotcocoababe

haha - what am i - the prophecy? haha... well, funny you should ask aLee (shortening it - got sick of writing the whole thing, plus that damn apostrophe).... Well, i don't really know on this topic... But i can talk from what i've seen/read/heard... So i'm basing this all from my experiences only (remembering i'm no HSC marker or anything)... SO:
oh my! lol... sorry doggie dude! i just realised my mistake!... i was meant to write "what do you do now?" as in, since your not a highschool student anymore, what are you doing? coz your still into drama-i assume- and all.... lol,... ididnt meant to sound like... well, i dont know, what it soudned like!!! oops... my bad....

i wasnt that keen on it myself really.... it trips me out, i dont like it when things are that weird... but on the other hand, i have seen some really excellent absurdism pieces - three girls in my class are a group, they sorta specialise in it... and although all their pieces dont make a huge amount of sense to me, they sure LOOK impressive (+ they're currently getting the highest marks in our class, so they must be doin something right,..... right!?)
im actually... well, i was much more.... interested in absurdism! i dont know... i guess its coz i find it intruiging and challenging at times! also because it makes me laugh, at nothing and everything in ths whole world!-hmm.very enigmatic alee, lol, english, tell later...
but i havent read a whole range of different absurdist plays though.... i was really interested in it after reading ones by beckett, and david campton! i loved laughin at the almost deadpan humour i felt whilst reading campton's "then..."
oh yeh.. and whats the deal with the whole paul viles thing?
ive met him.. and he really does seem like sucha nice man! and i guess i'll be seeing him more if i accept the nivite... but should i be afraid? i mean, of course i want to do well in school however, but then again. drama especially......... am i making sense?
haha- one typo makes a world of difference! haha.... These days I'm a washed up drama student... haha! Well, THAT - and i own my own production company (Maddogz Productions) and i make corporate films for other larger corporations (mostly sport-related: golf/rugby/basketball)... As well as that, I work editing films in Bondi for another company (Dr. What Films)... Also work in the Drama Dept at my old school part-time, and coach bball at my old school full-time (although bball season has now finished)... But everything is slowly coming to a close - i move in a months time, off to Queensland... I got a part-scholarship to Bond University on the Gold Coast (such a hard life isn't it haha), so i'm starting second semester (May)... Have applied for a few jobs in the theatre of Conrad Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast (my sister works there as a dancer)... So yeah, that's my life pretty much - WORK, WORK, WORK, and lots of partying when i'm not working haha... Love to party! And when i feel like it, i go away for a few days - so far Sussex Inlet and the Gold Coast have been my destinations, but next month off to Fiji for a month ahhh - hard life... I've attached the newspaper article (FRONT PAGE PICTURE too! haha) printed on my "success" and "future" to verify this (you haveta uv local newspapers - haha)! What do you plan on doing when you finish aLee?Originally posted by aLeeOh!
