has anybody seen Onstage 2004?
Would love to hear some reviews on all of it - both programs and the exhibition in the foyer...

i went saturday..it was good... watched program B...as a whole last year was better but there were some really excellent ones...'Nutcase' and 'The Peacock' were my favourite ones. The first one 'Joe' was a GP...it was good, but more drama festival good rather than HSC Drama good...the monologues were ok...this guy did Accidental Death of an Anarchist playing the maniac...the others were kind of wishy- washy. The last one by Newtown PA was good, but also wishy washy and a bit pretentious

But 'Nutcase' is the clear winner this year. You'll enjoy that one.

fringey - i think you still can get tickets... I'm not 100% sure though... Try calling the Seymour Centre, or ring the Department of Education and Training on (02) 9367 8309... Your best bet is to call the Seymour Centre... Writers OnSTAGE/OnSCREEN is on 3-6 Feb, OnSTAGE is on 2-7 Feb... Get in quick to get your ticket... Usually there'll be a few spare so you should be sweet to get tix!

I've got some time on my hands so I'll do a quick review of all the performances from Program B.

Joe (GP): A well acted piece - excellent example of an ensemble piece, however, we've seen it all before and its more suiting to state drama festival or something.

The Good Person of Szechwan (IP): Boring! She was excellent though...she used devices of Asian theatre with the Brecht piece. Pretty original, well -acted, but so incredibly boring!!

The Peacock (GP): The first GREAT performance of the show. It was set in a casino, it was original, funny, and well acted. One of my favourite ones, I'm sure you'll enjoy this one (if you watch program b).

Rise of the CEO (IP): It was an original and funny piece..doing Macbeth as a coroporate businessman...in my opinion, he wasnt very strong in the acting department, but the piece was pretty good.

Nutcase (GP): As I said above, this was my favourite performance. Easily the best one of the program. Three guys act as removalists delivering a package and they open it up only to get trapped in another world. It was freakin hilarious, very clever and novel idea, well- acted too.

Ship of Fools (GP): BLEEEEEHHH!!! Awful! The concept was quite good, but it was a very weak group. I think they got through with their topic and content, but the performers themselves - individually and as a group - were pretty weak. I got a very bad vibe from this one.

'The' Damsel (IP): Also BLEEEHH! I spose it was well- acted and it did have its moments, but truly boring!!!!!!!!

The Maniac (IP): Without question the best Individual Performance. It was extremely well- acted. He played the maniac from Accidental Death of an Anarchist. Brilliant.

Searching for Sunshine (GP): This was actually a pretty clever and novel idea, and no doubt well acted and funny -the costumes, sets and props were brilliant. It was just seemed to me a bit wishy washy as I said before and quite pretentious.

Well thats my quick review. Hope you all get to see it!

I made the 2 hour trek out this morning to have a geezer at the exhibition... For the first time in 3 years, i actually read the rationales and logbooks of other people... It was well worth it... Overall, I found the quality of the exhibition alone was excellent - much better than previous years... Especially Poster/Promotion and Costumes... OMG, I am SO over my video - i watched it there today and said "F*** its gay..." hahaha... You need to read the rationale before you see it to understand it... Oh well... Hanging out till i see all the performances (Writers Onstage/OnScreen, and Onstage) on Friday... Should be good, fingers crossed! Good to hear that this year is better than last year - i found last years was a let down (besides "Do it for Momma"...) The year previous (2002) was excellent and a real good show! Anyways people - keep it real....

Its cracked... It shows tho - if ur out of ur head and have whack dreams and ideas and make them a reality (and can express it visually) then you reap the benefits... Always listen to your teachers, and ask their help ALL the time - the more help you get, the more likely it is you'll go well! I didn't get to see the others today, the DVD thingo stopped playing and so i only saw the end of the one before mine...

Hello guys.. I went to the onstage exibition today and found the design works to be of a high standard.. If anyones been there already.. I'm in this years group in the poster promotion.. and seriously.. I dont know what the markers were thinking when they chose my piece 'Meat Party' (the one thats red and yellow with the tree).. when the other works were exceptional.. My fave would have to be the 'blue murder' one with the two faces.. I thought it was really well thought out and executed.. brilliant! Out of the costume designs.. they were also great but my fave would have to be the Twelth Night piece on the wall.. it was beautifully created and wonderful charactertures.. And also the Meat Party design.. it had an eerie beauty to it. Out of the sets.. hmm all great but loved the one with the stage coming out into the audience.. great work!! Anyways thats my review of the designs.. but I'm viewing the performances this saturday.. and from the reviews I've read it should be a fantastic show!! Ciao..

Went to see Writers OnStage/Onscreen today... Was really impressed by the whole show! Do a quick rundown of the show...

Pip Grahame - The Truth About Nothing
Really good... Reminded me of a good old drawing room comedy - but at the same time - not... It was really well written, and Andrew MacFarland was great in his character...

Robert Ross Miles - Watch Her Disapper
Very, very well put together... The editing was great - really well done... Interesting camera work, but the editing made the movie...

Carson Maddocks - Waterline
Can't say anything on it, that's up to you all... haha, I don't criticise myself (in front of people)...

Joel Phillips - Usual Day
Great storyline... The basis of the plot drove the film through its entirety... Very good to watch! As i said - purely driven by the storyline!

Sebastian Gimenez - The Lucky Country
Really, really good - very funny... Loved the way absurdist theatre was brought into an Australian context... Pure genius - reminded me of the great "Australian" duo - Stiffy and Mo... Very good

So yeah - overall was really impressed! Going to see the performances tonight - should be good... Cheerio all!

hey, i watched yours today! i liked it, although i have to admit i kind of had to stifle my giggles when 'kiss from a rose' started playing (seeing as it's about cunnilingus and i am immature. :)) congratulations though, it was a good piece.

'the lucky country' was great, about two seconds in i went 'hey, i know this!'... my mother mentioned it when she was marking, how she read an absolutely hysterical one which was the aussie version of waiting for godot... : ) i told her i saw it today when i came home and she was all pleased it got in

haha... thanx glycerine... yeah - kiss from a rose was one decision that was 50/50... Some people thought it was "corny", but others in the industry told me that as it's instrumental then there were no problems with it... Still 50/50 on that one though! Don't lose immaturity, it keeps us sane... And never stop laughing - it keeps things interesting...
As per your comments on Lucky Country, it was superb hey! It really was like an "australian godot"... The kid has talent... Haha - wish my mum marked HSC drama! haha...
I saw Onstage last night (Friday) and loved it... Will put a review up when i get round to doing it... Busy with work - bleeeeeeeeeeh!

well the instrumental itself went really well with the piece, it's just the connontations to me, including telling my supervisor once "stop singing the cunnilingus song damnit!!" :p

i saw it last night too, i thought most were really good at what they achieved to do. the second one - the japanese monologue - wasn't as intrinsically entertaining as a lot of the others, but she was really good at doing what she had set out to do. i wasn't sure exactly why 'the nutcase' was there? i mean, it was amusing, and it was good, but i didn't think it was quite as good as the others...

did you read any of the scripts in the foyer? i liked 'something's amiss', i thought it was clever, but 'the boss'... i liked the idea and all, but i just didn't think it was an exemplar. i personally think, given the opportunity, i could write better. (i don't want to sound conceited, but i just didn't think it was overly excellent). it's possible that they put it in just to show that the b.o.s can laugh at themselves.

Hey all, yeah i went to c it last week and loved it...mostly.

The group performances were great (as always)- loved hearing bout your responses to "ship of fools" cause my drama teacher marked that one! yeah i know, we didn't understand why either.

I thought that the individual performances didn't quite match up to last years though (i really loved the one last year bout the J.F.K assasination - my taste). This year the best one by far was "the good woman from swkj*@#jh" (cant spell). I thought she moved very well and everything was done to a really high standard.

Did anyone else notice that all of the individual performances were very, very INDIVIDUAL (yes, picked up on how stupid that sounded). I'd never seen anything like them, and they were all really different.... perhaps thats ment to be some kinda BOS signal for what they want us to do.....???
