Hey people.

As the title suggests, I got a job interview with Optus, for a position in-shop.

I have a basic understanding of how to conduct myself in the interview, just wondering if anyone could give me some tips? I've never done an interview for a position like this, and am hoping someone who has will respond.

Really need this job, and would really love this job.

(THANK FRIGGIN' GOD THAT I FINALLY GOT AN INTERVIEW!!!!!!!!).

This may be my only chance to get a job in this area for months, so I can't screw this up.

Not just me saying from experience, but an hr person came in during orientation. Tips:

1. Be friendly. It's probably alright so don't stress. Apparently they want the interview to go as well as you want it too. And yeah they'll understand if you have a few opening jitters. Just work past them quickly and move on.
2. Speak clearly and ask when you don't understand. Yeah it's awkward when you have to ask a few times, but pay attention to what they want you to answer. They may want examples of what you've done rather than just saying "I handled disturbances". They might want to know how you thought through the scenario. And yeah don't mumble. Means they feel awkward asking what you said.
3. Don't go over the top. Don't be an idiot and say this is your career choice or something. Be up front about the fact that it's just a job, but you're willing to work hard anyway. That said don't push that you're just in it for the money lol.

Yeah haven't done a full formal interview myself, but as I said, someone came in and gave us tips (have got a job btw, therefore SOME form of interview :p). Hope you get it! Congrats on the interview btw. Are there jobs popping up all over the place now that uni is back?

Nope. This area is still dry as.

I'm just lucky that someone quit their job and my resume was on the top and one of the only ones lol. Also, my resume was sent in by the Optus head office (my friend sent it direct to the neational head employment office) and they had a copy of my old one, so I assume they saw that I had applied at a few Optus shops.

I haven't interviewed with Optus, but I have with Telstra for their retail arm. Mine was a two hour interview involving group work and an individual interview with a hiring manager.

If they've seen that you have applied to a few Optus shops, this will show to them that you're really keen to work for the company. I'm assuming you have a love of gadgets, so do stress this!

Research the company in case they ask any questions about what you know about Optus. This came up in my individual interview and I had prepared by looking up stuff about the big T on the internet, and even had an idea of some of the systems used by retail staff (thanks to their employees on the Whirlpool forums haha). I was offered the job, but turned it down as I'd been successful elsewhere.

Other than that, dress smart (one level up from what you're expected to wear in store as a general rule) and good luck!

Did the interview on Tuesday. They seemed happy. They said I interviewed well and liked my responses, so hopefully I've got it.

God knows I need it.
