My parents were heaps pleased, i just beat my sister as well and they didn't pressure me at all throughout the year, just told me to do my best even though i bludge quite a fair bit

The comment made by me, which you seem to have taken umbridge with and promptly deleted, was directed at a supposed mother of several children, and therefore, one would assume, a mature adult. As such she does not fit within the category of a “student who may not be totally emotionally stable.” I feel that, as an adult, she should be quite capable of coping with any emotional barbs directed at her. Indeed, I think it is quite healthy to have members who are sceptical of a user who has amassed 90+ posts in the HSC forum in just over a 24 hour period, especially when many of said posts seemed rather dubious. If it was the language of the post which you felt warranted its deletion, then so be it. However, in your post you identified an “attitude” which seems to indicate a series of posts evoking a particular negative aura, but seeing as though only one of my three posts within this thread were deleted, I can only assume that this is not the case. Unless we are to believe that one post can be indicative of an entire attitude, I sincerely hope this is not so. Of course you could be referring to my ENTIRE BoS career, in which case your comment has some validity.

I wasn't specifically talking just to you hence I listed a few other nicknames.

Skeptism is fine, but your approach to it seems more flamatory than constructive. Perhaps I was exaggerating when I mentioned 'attitude', but you understand what I mean. One bad post may be indicative of future posts, and I wish to ensure that you and other people in this forum understand that it is not tolerated.

I didn't entirely assume that your attitude will be consistently bad, but I was trying to prevent any further posts like that.

I hope you understand what I mean and where I'm coming from and hope you can be more considerate in your posting in this forum.

I may not have had a father/money/a steady home - but I did my HSC for my mother. I spent 6 years being that "intelligent but lazy" kid, lived through so many violent issues in my home, got suspended and expelled so many time but at the end of that day, I didnt want to go to University because "mummy/daddy wanted me to" - I studied because I knew I was better than everyone else. And I wanted to show it for once.

And with just six months of study, I did it. And im not a North Shore/Rich Brat.

1) why would north shore people shop at bondi when they have chatswood westfields
2) North shore isn't all rich (just like the east where I live)
3) People may have extenuating circumstances

I think reprise's daughter deserves a pat on the back. The HSC was one of the most stressful times of my life. Not only did reprise's daughter had to keep her stress levels stable to handle exams, but for the sake of her baby... which i admire.

my dad was happy as, coz my bro and sis got in the 70's and then i got 98. i think he wanted at least one of us to get near him (he got like 99 and 1st in ag in whatever system they had back then)... he was so happy. it was funny coz he goes 'now i dont want you to think that you need alcohol to celebrate a special occasion, so dont ever think you do, but...' and he pulled out a 4pack of ruskis! which was a big thing coz he is so totally against buying me drinks (im 17). so i knew he was v happy, he went round wif a smile on his face all day. oh and yes the pressure thing is good... my friends parents did not even care what they got and they were capable of 90's and did really bad. so yes, go overachieving dads in a small country town!

All that matters is that you did you best. But kids do better when they are not under pressure from their parents.

Being happy with your uai has much to do with your expectations and what you were aiming at. If you worked really hard during the year and were aiming at law at usyd or unsw a uai of 99.2 would be shattering. So close but so far.

Kids also do better when they get the taste of winning and acheiving which must, somehow, be ingrained at an early age.

Life is an exam. The HSC is just one of them and actually it's one that isn't all that hard compared to all the tests that life will pelt at you. If my child got a poor UAI I'd feel that I had partly failed in my parental duty to instill the correct attitudes into my child. Attitudes of hard work, competition, winning and trying your best. That's the honest truth.

I got 97.2. When I told my Dad he was all like 'well that's not going to get you into Law at Sydney or NSW'. So yeah he's quite pissed off at me just cause I didn't do as good as my sister.
But meh, I'm really happy with what I got. I have had a really crap year.. was abused by my boyfriend at the start of the year and had depression. So I was expecting at the most something around 70. My step-mum is really happy for me though so at least that's something.

To whoever said 'parents should push their child', I disagree. It adds a ton of extra stress that a child doing their HSC simply doesn't need.

If you needed to be pushed by your parents to work hard, then maybe you really weren't mature enough to be undertaking the HSC this year. I come from a very laid back family, my parents are very supportive but they have never tried to push me. The 'always try your best, and we'll be proud of you regardless' mentality might be cliche, but it's what I've grown up with, and I was an above average student all through my schooling, regularly topping classes and winning various academic awards. The thing is, I was perceptive enough to understand I couldn't by any means skate through the HSC if I wanted a high UAI and entrance to university. So I worked hard. For myself, not my parents. I needed an 86, I got a 93.65. If my parents had pushed harder would I have gotten a higher UAI? sure, maybe. But I was extremely proud of my effort, because it was entirely my own.

Your parents won't be there your whole life to be standing behind you, pushing you to get things done. You need to learn to stand on your own two feet and show some initiative. If you want something badly enough, you can achieve it on your own merits.

And lastly, there's much more to life than just grades. I hope all your parents understand this.

Dude, shut the fuck up. I can relate to politik on this, as life doesnt always hand out success in equal shares. There are people who have hard lives, and the fact they are able to pull it together and work hard to get what tehy deserve, is indeed something to be proud of.
