Hi! I’m Ruby Hillsmith, a tutor from Sydney. I sat the HSC in 2014 and graduated from Fort Street Selective High School. I have always had a passion for English, so I was pleased to rank 9th in the state in English Extension 2 in the 2014 HSC.
My overall results for the HSC were 49/50 for English Extension 1, 49/50 for English Extension 2, and 95/100 for English Advanced. I ranked first in ALL English subjects in the Fort Street High School HSC Trial Exams. I am very happy to teach English to students of any High School age, but I do specialise in the aforementioned HSC/Preliminary subjects.
I have had experience coaching ESL students in English at a leading Sydney tutoring college. Because of this, I am confident coaching High School students of any experience or confidence level. If you or your child is an ESL student or a student that struggles with English, please note that in your application and I will hopefully be able to help you.
At the same leading Sydney tutoring college, I aided Preliminary and HSC students in their study of Discovery, the current HSC Area of Study Module. I have also taught the English Extension Modules After the Bomb, Textual Dynamics, and others. I specialise in essay crafting and editing, analysis of texts and related texts, and help with creative writing. I am widely read, but I am also willing to study texts I haven’t read in order to enhance my teaching. My experience coaching debating and public speaking at Canterbury Girls’ High School means I can pass on skills and techniques to help you ace oral tasks.
I am also prepared to mentor and tutor students studying English Extension 2. My 2014 Major Work allowed me to extensively study literature and creative writing, equipping me with unique skills and knowledge. I am not only well equipped in teaching the skills of creative writing, but I can help you edit, structure your piece, and find new inspirations. My English Extension Major Work was published in the Young Writers’ Showcase 2014.
I am willing to tutor at any speed, to students with any ability level. Together we can find a learning style that suits you. Because of my personal HSC experiences, my passion for English, and my experience with tutoring at private colleges and schools, I am confident that I can help you achieve HSC success!
