I've given up on Malkmus. His first two solo records were rubbish compared to the trio of Pavement releases - S&E, CRCR and that "Chook EP" I hardly remember the name of! I've been listening to Pavement 1998 and was almost brought to tears when I heard they'd broken up, effectively ending any chance of seeing them live. It's just not the same with Preston School and Malkmus solo works diluting the quality of Pavement releases, however, the quality was never as good as the classic early 90s records. Wowee Zowee was the last one I'll be picking up the re-release for. The others just don't seem worth the trouble.

Some of the tracks on this one are outstanding ('Spoiled Little Filly') and some of the unreleased takes are just great. Some of the tracks also appeared on the essential Stuff Up the Cracks bootleg; exact same take, but far better sound quality. I remember CDR trading for that boot and being blown away thinking "why wasnt this commercially released?" well now it pretty much is.

Excuse me, these guys were definately my favourite band for along time. They were the first band I ever got seriously into (collected singles, japanese sides, vinyl) and so I will always have a soft spot for them.

Great re-release, 10/10.

how can you dismiss malks solo work so flippantly?

i prefer alot of pav's later material because it has alot more direction than the early stuff.
btw, you cant be THAT much of a fan if you can't remember the name of Watery domestic. it was even re-released with the luxe and reduxe S+E
