that's off the top of my head, u guys better check.
anyway, i saw in that assessment booklet we got, that 98 was top 2% and 90 was top 10%. i don't really get it..

In theory, 99 means top 1% of those who did the SC with you. However, many who did the SC might not have gone on to do HSC or not asked for UAI.

They have been the same for the past four years, even though the HSC cohort sizes have been increasing:

2003: 65,311
2002: 64,805
2001: 62,751
2000: 62,883

In the 2003 HSC:

22 students will receive a UAI of 100.00...
5% of the state will receive "30.00 or less"

Therefore that leaves a gap of 69.95 for UAI...

If you think about it, the 2003 HSC will work like this assuming that exactly 65,311 students sit the 2003 HSC...but only approximately 51,000 will receive a UAI as others will not comply with the UAI rules.

On a state scale: (65,311 candidates)
i) 9302 students will receive a UAI of >90.00
Therefore the top 18.2% of the state get >90

ii) 18,582 students will receive a UAI of >80.00
Therefore the top 36.4% of the state get >80

iii) 27,862 students will receive a UAI of >70.00
Therefore the top 54.6% of the state get >70
