Hey can some one help me with what the different equations mean and how to work things out like speed and velocity?

velocity is a vector: i.e. it is a quantity that has magnitude (i.e. size) and direction. The magnitude is the speed. Quantities such as speed that have magnitude but no direction are referred to as scalars.
So if a particle is travelling Northeast at 72 metres/second and another is travelling to the East at 72 metres/second they both have the same speed (72 metres/second) but they have different velocities (because of different directions).
You should post the different equations you are interested in so it'd be easier to help you. I presume you are doing Prelim yr Physics.
