all plastics are polimers, such as pvc and polly-styrine, but there are also natural polimers

ehehe all plastics are polymers, but not all polymers are plastics! ok, that was just way too stupid and obvious, but i just wanted to make sure i didn't get confused.

Consider the structural and physical properties of plastics;

They are light, strong and flexible, the way i think about it, if they had single monomer type molecules it would be alot more brittle.
have varyig b.p's, m.p's and other characteristics based on the type of branching [eg LDPE] or lack of branching [HDPE] which influences the packing of polymer chains.

polymerisation is confusing. draw some pictures if that helps.

Can someone tell me what are the characteristics of BIOPOLYMERS? Also 4 natural biopolymers?

doesn't biopolymers mean natural polymers???? they're biologial polymers, therefore biopolymers???? thats what i thought anyway, could be wrong though, all i know at the moment is that celllulose has a structure which goies up then down then up then dowm when joining the monomers

ok not the best diagram, but if you look at tis sideways it gives you an idea, (the 0's are meant to be the rings) i know it can be asked as multiple choice, so yeah thats all i know so far.

the only characteristic that covers all biopolymers
is that they biodegrade easily,

(unless you add chemicals to make it stronger, which
defeats the purpose because most biopolymers are
made for disposable packaing, and you could have
spent less money by using an easily available
petrol-based plastic)

example of a natural biopolymer is cellulose. i think that's the only one you need to know. you also have to know about one synthetic biopolymer. examples of them are PHA,PHB,PLA and Biopol.

3 natural biopolymers are starch, cellulose, and glycogen. I can't think of 4, but there are two forms of starch - amylose and amylopectin. So if you separate them, then you've got 4.

DNA is a chain of nucleotides, so I think it is a natural polymer. Think...
