An American centrist? Yayyyyy...
I think it was a good choice. He definitely is similar to Francis in his emphasis on the poor/marginalised and being more pastorally/synod focused. I think where this Pope might find more success is he isnt as focused on the hot button issues that brought Francis so much trouble. I think overall it shows that the church/cardinals were looking to continue on with Francis more "People focused" church without the baggage.

Ah yes, a "centrist" who supports open borders. Gtfo lol
The church is always going to support migrants/less privileged as it is a central tenant of Christian belief. This isnt an endorsement of said belief, but I would be mystified if a Catholic Leader was strong on border control/migration as the central tenants of the gospels/Catholic belief dont support this in any way, shape or form.

I mean, in a similar vein it would be difficult to see the church ever support gay marriage or sex before marriage because again, these defy core beliefs.

It means he's not practically a "centrist". He supports the most central policy of modern leftism.

And of course, I'm sure he won't be calling for St Peter's to be turned into a refugee shelter, or calling for the vatican walls to be torn down

And he would never, ever, ever criticise China's very strict immigration laws

And tell me, what would the popes of old think of millions of muslims moving into christendom with no pretence of assimilation?
