For next year I've started to consider using my iPad for school instead of my school laptop. This is because my school laptop is very heavy, takes up space in my bag and is just kind of crap and I've seen quite a few students using iPads instead. The only problem I would have using my iPad is not being able to use a USB, but I hardly ever need to so that doesn't bother me too much.

So how practical is it to use an iPad for school instead of a school laptop? What are some ways of using an iPad during class? I was thinking of maybe typing my notes up in Google docs, that way I could easily access them at home unless someone can suggest a better app? Or am I just simply better off sticking to using my school laptop as this is what it was given to me for?

I might be a bit old fashioned, but realistically I dont think you need a laptop or iPad in class. I mean, you're better off just using pen and paper - it's way lighter, more cost effective and you dont have to worry about losing it. Besides, it mostly ends up being a distraction anyway.

I think an ipad could be useful for looking at digital textbooks in class if you aren't bothered bringing the actual book. If you can't use a USB you could always just email the files to yourself and open it there. Otherwise I find typing on them really annoying without a keyboard so it might not be the best way to take notes.

I think it could be useful. I see people using them these days. And personally, I type faster than I write so i can see it being good for note taking

+1 Putting all your textbooks on there is its best use.

As long as the HSC is a set of written examinations, writing in class is probably the best option.

Sweet. Then you can look at porn and chuck a bat during class!
no different from a laptop?

That's probably true, but my main problem with writing notes is because everybody types the teachers don't give enough time for the few people using pen and paper to write the information down.
