its not just a matter of proximity to a mine...

UNSW = better reputation = attracts better lecturers

+ it has got more resources than UNEWCASTLE

Btw, if you want to do mining engineering, be prepared to spend ur life in the middle of nowhere =)
Meh Mining Engineers get payed stack loads

Nah, I'm probably a bit biased myself. I reckon for traditional sciences (excluding computer science), USyd is a safe choice. For frontier sciences or mathematical sciences, UNSW is safer. USyd's got good maths, but UNSW is better at its application. For psych or maths, it's up to you. Really, for undergrad if two universities are roughly tied, choose the one you would prefer to go to; the one which suits your personality better.
hmm im looking for a degree with a good grounding for med, but wouldn't mind getting a little distracted along the way. I'd just do a straight advanced science, but im not sure whether at usyd or unsw?

UNSW seems to have more options, including astronomy, oceanography, meteorology. Other than that, they're have similar majors.

1. Social Science(Criminology)/LLB - UWS
2. LLB - UTS
3. Social Science/ LLB - Maquarie
4. Social Science(Criminology) - UWS
I'm also choosing Social Science (Criminology) / LLB @ UWS, but if I was to choose my 2nd, 3rd etc preferences they all have higher UAIs, so is there any point in having more than one preference if your others are harder to get into?

I know that the UAIs can change, but I highly doubt that UNSW, USyd, UTS law will have lower cut-offs than UWS next year.
