What is a good flip fone that costs between $150 to $200?

I am planning to purchase a flip phone through prepaid plan. The ones that I like at the moment are from Optus - either the Nokia 6060 ($169) or the Samsung x640 ($199) (Samsung has a camera). I don't really care about the camera, so disregarding that, which is the better flip fone? I just to want to send SMS and make calls like normal. If you can suggest any better prepaid flip fones for around that price, that would be appreciated.

Also, for prepaids, you get the mobile and SIM separately? I am asking because I already have my own number and SIM and I want to stick with my existing carrier rather than get a new number on Optus. Can I just dispose of the prepaid SIM provided (it's only got $10 credit) and use my old SIM with my existing no.?

You will find most prepaid mobile phones have a simlock on them locking them to the network sim that came with the phone.

It (usually) takes 6 months until you can replace the sim, or you pay an unlocking fee.

Does that only apply if you use the prepaid SIM that comes with the mobile and then try to change SIMs? I thought they came in separate boxes so you could just chuck away one. Isn't the box with the mobile like a fresh one - not tampered with by the carrier?

Nope, the mobiles are prelocked to that carrier. Ie have been tampered with.

If you just throwaway the sim that came with it and put yours in, im sure it will not work.

for vodafone prepaid phones, you can get them unlocked at no charge and whenere you want - even the day you get the phone

They dont come locked (well according to me local challenged vodafone employee they dont).
If they do, you can then make them unlock it for free, cause he told you you could.

i think vodafone branded phones are locked; well some of them. however, you can unlock them through the vodafone website, so its fairly easy

For Optus prepaid, the phone is locked to Optus network for 6 months (you can use Virgin SIM too), or when you have recharged for $85, whichever comes first.

For Virgin prepaid, the phone is locked to the Optus network as well (you can use Optus SIM too), when you have recharged for $85, you can unlock it.

For Telstra prepaid, the phone is locked to the Telstra network for 6 months, after that you can pay $27.50 to have it unlocked, otherwise $80? to have it unlocked. So regardless how long or how much you spend on Telstra prepaid, you still have to pay to have your phone unlocked.

Vodafone prepaids ARE unlocked.

If you want a flip phone thats around $150. Get the 'Sagem MyC5-2' flip phone. Its got the basics, camera, voice recording, java games, LEDS on the front, calender...

Its a really good little phone. My dad & myself have got one..its hard to tell which one is which, sometimes..lol.

I'm thinking of buying a Nokia 6060 outright for around $210 - it looks pretty good. Any comments?
