Hey all, particularly to the class of 2004, when are you having your prize-giving nights? Do you know what prizes you're receiving yet? And what are the prizes? ((money, books, etc?) How long do your prize-giving nights go for, when do they happen (ours happen on the last day of school), do you have any special guests to award you the prizes and does anything else happen besidse the physical giving away of prizes and speechse? And also, where do your prize-giving nights happen? (Ours happens in the gym)

We had ours on the 6/12, and it was really quite suspenseful because the Year 12s (nup, I'm just a Year 11'er) thought that only one person was going to get dux but instead, our principal was like 'the dux of the school for 2004--(pause)--equal (emphasised) are: dux no. 1 and dux no. 2'. Ours usually goes for two hours, and we have a number of songs sung, the official party coming in (which, cos most of them are so.....old, takes about 10 mins to walk 25metres and sit down), and we have 4 speeches, one from the head of the school council, one frm the principal, one from the special guest and one from the school captain. So yeah...

Oh, and congrats to all the duxes of their year/school this year.

we had ours on the last day of term 3 which was offically yr 12's last day - its combind with our graduation mass (catholic school) and the whole thing goes for about 2 and a bit hours. anyone who got 1st in a subject gets book awards and certificates for 2nd & 3rd.

um only a couple of special awards - sporting blues for national represenation in sport and religious studies award (which i got this year - didn't know until they annoucnced it cause i didn't read ahead in the structure of night sheet so everyone else knew bar me)

ummm dux is annoucned at the Awards evening (which is for all students etc) which is next feburary

*fingers crossed* i'll get dux... wel find out when the uais are announced - our school bases ours on the top UAI... mmm so not that long to wait to find out... so yeah dux isn't announced at teh grad ceremony... i dont know how many schools do it like we do

mine's 2nite, and mine sounds very similar to lala2's. we hava "guest of honour" whose sum random that NONE of the student's have heard of, we have the official party, acedemic awards (i'm getting the consistent achiever award - book prize), sport awards that take FOREVER, special awards and principle's awards (i'm getting the Macnamara Music award-trophy award). it'll go for at least 3 hours cause it's the principle's last speech nite ever-so his speech will take at least an hour! the best part is that i'm not in the school band and i'm sitting witb the prize winners and we can sneak in discman's, ipods etc. anywaz, as u can tell i've got PLENTY of time on my hands...peace out :)

our year 12's dont get a prez night, they just get a graduation at the end of term 3 or whatever. having a prez night sounds good though, as it would be fun to come back to school and see everyone after you have left ...

We have a graduation day and a presentation night and it all happened just before the HSC exams....we had all sorts of awards and prizes...like gift vouchers from Dymocks....we get a $25 gift voucher every subject we come first in...for special awards we get $30 - $60 gift vouchers ....with trophys etc......I was also lucky enough to get dux (this is based on school assessment ranks and marks...there's another dux for Uai aka: the overall dux) and I got a huge glass trophy and a cheque for $200....so at the end of the presentation day I had prizes and gift vouchers totalling to about $450...YAY!!!

When the UAI's are released the person that gets Overall Dux gets a big $800 cheque from the school....=o

Our Presentation Night was on Monday night... the "minor" awards (First in a subject, Effort & Achievement in a subject, Improvement in a subject, Christian Leadership [Christian School] and College Service) are printed in the program so that everyone gets into alphabetical order and it is in a reasonably quick progress, but the "major" awards are announced, and no-one knows that they are getting the award.

I got a major award!! Moink (a friend in my year) and I get to share the Raine & Horne Community Service Award... It is the first year for this award, and so our names are first on the big perpetual plaque. We each got a medalian and a certificate and we get to share the plaque thing. No financial gain though. We got it for organising and directing the Year 12 Charity Concert which raised money for the Westmead Children's Hospital Burns Ward (Molly & Sophie appeal) whilst still keeping up with school work and assessments. (Another girl, Ange, also helped organise, but she didn't keep up w/ school work & assessments). Moink and I were both Student Leaders (Prefects) and her area was Fundraising and mine was Community. Yeah.

our graduation lasted about 3 hours and presentation night lasted 2.5 hours....if you don't get any awards you'll be really pissed....caused it gets hell boring if you just sit there....but usually everyone gets at least one award...

oh yeh.....and the speeches were sooooo boring...the school capt spoke for 20 mins and was crying and moaning most of the time then the vice capt spoke: same old thing....then more people spoke....Seriously sometimes you just wanna throw your awards at them for dragging on and on ...a couple of parents fell asleep and my principal pronounced most of the names wrong....even mine!! and also you clap so much that by the end of the day your hands are all red and numb.......so yeh.....overall it was a great night ;)

Which is why Im glad our awards thing is during the day.
On wednesday next week. I get some award (subject and sport awards are given out on grad so these are more specialised awards) good.

we didnt have any money, any vouchers, etc. I got 1st in all my subjects and just got a crappy little award. Sports people got trophies, and that was it. Also, the dux (highest UAI) will also probably get nothing, except a mention in the paper.

I think it has something to do with the fact that barely anyone paid any of those "general contribution" fees ^^
