What are my employment prospects like if I study accounting at UNSW?

Accounting is seen as a 'safe' field in the US, but it seems to be less so in Australia.

IMO, the future of Accounting is going to be very similar to pharmacy. I hear alot of ppl doing business, commerce and economic degrees that major in accounting. Thus the influx of grad numbers means that its going to be very competitive in the future to get a job. This far, its alright; however things could drastically change in few years. Almost 25-30% of all the ppl going to uni from my school are doing business/commerce/economics related courses.

Not sure if trolling.

Anyways, accounting is actually a wide field. Whilst it can be competitive, there are so many roles that may require accounting that I really cannot see a shortage of jobs in the foreseeable future. Remember that accounting is the "language of business" and will always be needed. To compare pharmacy to accounting is quite drastic don't you think?

Exactly what I thought. As long as there are businesses, accountants will always be needed.

Accouting is usually quite stable if you're not aiming for the Big 4. In particular if you are doing further study to become a qualified accoutant (eg CA and not just major in accounting) then you should be fine provided you pass everything. Don't expect high salaries though (compared to other fields)...
