PSY104 and STAT170?! help please!! (1 Viewer)

hi, can someone please tell me if you have to do PSY104 and STAT170 in the same semester (ie. semester 1)?? OR is it possible to do PSY104 in semester 1 and PSY105 and STAT170 in semester 2?

You can do stat170 either semester or for the whole year.
STAT170 is not a prerequisite for psy105 it is a corequisite.

"A corequisite is a unit of study, which has to be completed prior to or concurrently with another"

In psy105 you will learn about writing psych reports & you will write part of one.
So you need to understand the stats a bit.

Er, STAT170 is a corequisite with PSY104, so I was under the impression you had to do them together in first semester...

I did it as a full year so I didnt really have a choice.

Cool I'm doing those units too =b,

Well PSY104 is semester 1 only, as it is a prerequisite for PSY105, which is forsemester 2, whereas you can choose to do STAT170 in sem 1, sem 2 or both.

I'm doing STAT170 in semester 1 so i have an even 4 units each semester, but they recommend you do it for the whole year if your math isnt up to scratch. This applies to me but i'm gonna try alot harder i guess =3

Le sigh. Unless I'm misreading the handbook, you have to do STAT170 with PSY104, that means doing it in first semester.

Yes that's true, but that's not what you said. You said you could do it semester 2, which you can't if you want to do PSY104 in semester 1.

When I did PSY104 we had the option of doing STAT170 either first semester or the whole year (but not in the second semester). I.e. you had to start STAT170 while doing PSY104 but not necessarily complete it. This was going years back though, so it may have changed (but I thought I would just bring it up).

just to throw my two cents in, you have to do stat170 with psy104 in first semester. on enrolment day i had planned to do stat170 in second sem but my academic advisor told me i couldn't do that so yeh. either first sem or the entire year.

Yes that would be correct, because STAT170 isn't a prerequisite of PSY105 (implying you had to pass it).

Anyway, hopefully this thread can now fade off until it's asked again 100 times next year.
