Not very. You don't need a political degree to be a good politician.

True, but what is the point of a degree in politics if not to be a politician

What is the point of a Philosophy degree? It could just be general interest. A political reporter might posses both, but depends on what type of political reporter :p

There is more than just what type of degree you got. Getting one shows you can critically think, and have research skills which is greatly valued in many occupations. In any case many older people go back and do a degree just for general interest often part time.

Party: Percentage with degrees
----------------------------------
ALP: 80.0%
Liberal Party: 82.6%
NPA: 53.8%
Ind: 66.7%
Total: 78.7%

Last time i checked, 79% of anything wasnt a small amount... i dare say its a majority.

i doubt having a degree in politics would make u a better politician, wat u need is

1. the ability to lie and keep a straight face
2. an unfailing disregard for human rights
3. take credit when it suits, and pass the buck when it doesnt.
4. oh, apparantly a family helps

Heh...those ones sounds just about right...

Perhaps many don't have degrees in politics because they never planned to venture into politics when they were considering their degree choices. Any minister (frontbencher) needs expertise in their field. So having an education degree of some sort would obviously help the Education Minister and vice versa. And as far as i know many politicians ventured into politics after completing some sort of law or journalism degree...these are the major areas i read..perhaps i'm wrong.

The point on you don't need to have a political degree to be a good politician.....good point.....there is no such thing as a good politician...:)

The government consists of a gang of men exactly like you and me. They have, taking one with another, no special talent for the business of government; they have only a talent for getting and holding office.

Kim even taught politics at uni (Perth?) for a while before becoming an MP. His father was also a polly...there're pretty good qualifications. </labor stoogerism>

Machiavelli's Prince is the best thing i have every read.

Makes you just want to slaughter a whole rival family for the fun of it.
