clearly it is line D as it is going in a circle, so the force pulling the object X away from the O is definately to the right hand side of the page

at first i though it was a trick question as well, coz the object will be subjected to a magnetic force that pushes the object X away from the centre so i was thinking line C as it would be curved away by the magnetic force of the centre

Wasnt question 2 the one with a circle which had a string brake?

And if it was the one with the circle and string braking then you will find the answer is the one were the velocity is a tangent to the circle, which is line B.

Camon its uniform circular motion, you should all know its a tangent

It's B. once the centripetal force is removed, there is no force acting on the ball. Therefore the ball continues on its tangential velocity at the point of break in a straight line

[ string attached to mass, guy spins round and round and lets go of string ].
when the guy lets loose of the string, it flies off in the tangential plane.

also another example is the cyclotron [for those who do q2q]
it is accelerated and accelerated until there is no magnetic field to hold it in centripetal acceleration and shoots towards a target in teh tangential plane [look in ur option booklet for a piccie]

FOR THE LAST TIME THE ANSWER IS B LOL .

when you let go, there is no more string and no more you in the middle of the circle to provide the centripetal force. the answer is clearly B, it does not experience a centripetal force anymore.

anyway just think of it in terms of shotputters. when they spin around and shit and let go, do you see the ball fly around in a circle around him? NO.

A mass attached to a length of string is moving in a circular path around a central point,
O, on a flat, horizontal, frictionless table. This is depicted in the diagram below. The string breaks as the mass passes point X.
Which line best depicts t he subsequenpt ath of the mass?
(A) Line A
(B) Line B
(C) Line C
(D) Line D

This question is related to circular motion. the answer is clearly (B) because if the string breaks, the object in circular motion will continue in a straight line that is a tangent to the circle.​
