hellooo!
It is coming up to that time of year again! when i have to try and figure out what schools im applying for!!!
Soo, Ive decided these are the schools i am going to apply for:
1. St George Girls
2. Sydney Girls
3. Hurlstone Agricultural
4. ......

I was going to consider putting down a partially selective school as my fourth option. I was thinking Sefton because it is close to home...untill I found out it isnt selective in years 11 and 12.... So then I thought I should try Tempe..
All I would like to know is, does Tempe High School have a selective stream and non selective stream in years 11 and 12, or is it mixed as sefton is?
Thanks. And if anyone could give me some more tips and info about applying for year 11 at a selective school that would be great! :D

Do you mean if tempe is partially selective, if so yes. http://www.schools.nsw.edu.au/gotoschool/types/shs_ahs_details.php.

Also, I think it is much harder to get into a selective at such a late year. There are not as much spots available.

i know Tempe is a partially selective, but i would like to know if they keep the selective students and non selective students in different classes in years 11 and 12. Because sefton has a selective and a non selective stream from years 7-10, but in year 11 they mix everyone up so its a mix of selective and non selective pupils in the classes. What i would like to know is if Tempe do the same thing as Sefton and mix up their selective and non selective students into the same classes in the senior years.
I dont care how hard it is. Most schools offer up to 20 extra places for year 11 allowing more students to gain entry. im in year 10 applying for year 11 next year.. from what i know St George, Sydney and Hurlstone offer 20 extra places. I really dont care that you say it is harder, i want to try and get in so i can get a better education than i do now.

You can always email or call and ask if they mix the selective and non selective students in year 11 and 12

Year 11 are the peak years of getting in a selective high school, that's when most spots are available

All partially selective schools are mixed in the senior years.
Although, the selective stream tend to choose subjects that are 'higher scaling' and of higher difficulty. So, they're usually separated anyway.
I suggest you choose a partially selective school with a high ranking and refrain from choosing 'low scaling' subjects, since those are usually what the mainstream students choose.

aw ok. Yeah, thats true.. so which school would you suggest? Is Tempe any good or should I choose sefton or mac fields? Macquarie fields is a little far away actually seeing as I don't live in the campbelltown area. Sefton would be the closest partially selective school to me. I was just thinking of putting down a partially selective as a last resort and they probably would be my last chance if i dont make it to any of my chosen fully selective schools..

Hey I went to Tempe. When I was there a few years back, the senior years were mixed for all subjects. However the teachers generally grade the classes so its pretty much like top, middle and bottom classes.

Sefton is a better choice imo because its closer to your home. Saves alot of time travelling.

Agreed, a selective school is a selective school. (Not saying that one is better than another, but there's still a similar environment)

also, i dont know whether I should put a partially selective school, or North Sydney Girls instead.. is it hard to get into north sydney? would i be better off putting a partially selective school? im not quite sure anymore. Last year when i applied my choices were 1.Sydney Girls 2.St George 3.North Sydney (my dad put sydney first but i actually wanted st george first) i was going to put tempe but i decided not to at the last minute.
Should I do this:
1. ST George Girls 2. Sydney 3. Hurlstone 4. Sefton/Tempe
or
1. St George Girls 2 Sydney 3.North Sydney 4.Hurlstone
does the order of preference matter that much?
I'm not sure how much of a chance i would stand getting into those schools....... :/ ugh why must this be so hard?! @_@ plus theres more pressure on me to choose the right schools because it is my last chance and i dont want to regret anything :/

North Sydney is the hardest to get into out of those, because it's the top all-girls school in NSW. Students (usually the top) from SGHS, SGGHS, Hurlstone, etc would try to gain entry into that school, so I think you should put that as your first preference. You also have to pay for the exam. However, if you stuffed up your report then it might be easier to gain entry into NSGHS, as long as you do really well in the exam compared to everyone else, because I think the test is more important than your report
yeah true.. idk anymore! D: yeah, that's what i was thinking, the test would be more important than your report, so if i get a good report and miraculously do well in the test id have a good chance...but i just dont know anymore!!! D;

and im not sure if you are planning to take 14 units, because I've been told you can not take more then 13 units at NSGH'S

so that may be something to bear in mind
